Where can I get some replacement silicone tubing for the Brinsea octagon 20 advance?
The tubing on their website is $2 a foot plus shipping!!!
Is there any way to get that same type of tubing for a better price?
I want to buy Buff Orpington Hatching Eggs or Chicks whose mothers have broody tendencies.
I want chicks/eggs that come from a a good quality line of broody hens. If you have high quality healthy broody hens and want to sell some chicks or hatching eggs please contact me.
In my current flock...
I have a half buff orpington / half brown leghorn that went broody. The date works out that she will be hatching her eggs around the same day my incubator is hatching. Is it possible to somehow slip them in with the chicks she hatched herself that way she can raise them all together? What’s the...
I finished my week long quest to sex my new guineas. I got them in the spring and decided it was time to sex them before egg laying season starts. So, after many scratches and lots of running around the coop I got them all sexed. At first I thought I had four males six females but then two of...
I got standard sized Cohins just for the purpose of being broody moms. I had one of my four hens, Mary, go broody after laying only a couple eggs. I went out and got her some fertilized eggs right away and put her in the brooder. I just made sure she had food and water. After three weeks I took...
Sorting the Sexes
I just started with Guinea keets last year. I this flock of ten in a chain link run 14x24 feet. They are all big enough now to sort out the sexes. I have been sorting them by grabbing a female anytime she makes her two syllable call and moving her into the brooder. So far I...
RiR x Shamo: Advice on Playing with Genetics
I have a flock of mostly RiRs and NHs. They are decent birds but I am interested in playing with the genetics/selected breeding a bit to suit my needs. I would like to encourage more natural traits one sees in the older breeds (Shamo, Modern Game...
I want to start labeling the birds with colored cable ties. I figure I will bring one at a time into the brooder and listen for the female's call. Anyway I need to know if they're big enough that I won't have to try and catch them to adjust the cable tie size later.
My question is at what age...
When do they move out of the brooder and how old are they?
I have a bunch of Guinea Keets. I don't know how old they are (I think I bought them in mid-September), but they are starting to get waddles and loose the feathers on their head. At night could drop into the 40s but so far its been 50s...
I have a half acre run for my chickens surrounded by a 6 chain link fence. I havent lost a bird from a coyote since I put it up and got a dog but I am still worried about hawks. I was thinking of installing some bushes or foliage that my birds can hide under from the hot SW Oklahoma shade and...
I have about two-score birds in a few different breeds including, Orpingtons, Standard Cochins, Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshires, a Leghorn. a Barred Rock, and some Guineas. I want to mark them for age. I think, from these forums, that zip ties will be the best way to go. So I need to buy a...
Picture of my $4000.00 egg!
This is the first egg from my flock.
I figure it cost me about $4000.00 including the 6' chain link around the 1/4 acre run, the coop, the brooder, the incubator, the feed, and the fertilized eggs.
Thanks to my white leghorn who was hatched on April 18, 2011.
I built a brooder last month and it works well. Currently the bottom is wood and I line it with a vinyl table cloth. This system works but I keep this brood inside my house which generates issues such as bad smell and dust from the woodchips. I would like to use ½x½ hardware cloth to line the...
I got some white leghorn pullets from Florida last month. It looks like three of them are cockerels. I am not interested in breeding them with their sisters. Instead I would like a trade for or buy another white leghorn rooster with someone close to Comanche County (90 min drive or less from...
Two incubator hatches in a row with less than 1/3 success, WHY?
I have had two incubator hatches in a row with less than 1/3 success. I am using the octagon 24 Advanced EX. I bought the eggs from two reputable sellers on BYC. One set was cochins the other duff orpingtons.
The first set I...
I know I am not supposed to open the incubator until they have all hatched. My question is wont it get crowded in there its the Brinsea Octagon 24 Advanced and it has 22 viable eggs (I candled before lockdown a couple days ago).
If I am not supposed to open until they all hatch wont they be...
This is the information I am using for hatching, brooding, and raising my chickens, I compiled it from all the information on this site, its forum, and other chicken information sources. If you find anything that is definitely wrong, likely wrong, or missing please explain so I can edit this...
Today I decided to set up a new room for my brooder/incubator room. So I put the incubators and brooders on the floor in the old room and moved the tables to the new room. A few minutes later I hear a distressed peeping sound headed in my direction. When I go to investigate, I find my wife's...
