Hello folks,
I hatched a bunch of ducks and this call duckling bonded with my husband and seemed to quack real early. I've hatched Pekin, call ducks, reopen, runners and muscles. This duck QUACKS. BUT, now at 5mo I'm noticing a sex feather.
I'm prepared this duckling is a male. Will he hurt...
I kept chickens for 10 years, but we moved and I couldn't for a couple years. Back into it. I need 6 standard size layers to keep up with my family of 6, but my 9yo son has fallen in love with my aunties silkies and frizzles.
Are there any standard size laying breeds that would do well with...
Hello!!
THE first of my duckling hatch are in the brooder. I am using an electric hen for the first time...does it look to be at an appropriate height for the ducklings? Thanks so much!!
I woke up this morning to 6 of my pekin eggs pipped! Originally set 50 eggs...46 made it to this point. I candled 24 hours ago and all were wigglin' and alive. Due to hatch Saturday, but my incubator ran steady and reliable so I'm not surprised by these pips.
Very excited for this hatch! My...
Hello
I have hatched two rouen ducklings and one has an overbite...the bottom beak extends farther than the top beak. Is this an issue I should be concerned about? She is eating and drinking without issue thus far.
Thanks so much!

We finished our coop for our three bantam easter eggers today!
The run is 3'x8' and the coop 3'x4'. The only improvement we will make is replacing the pvc coated galvanized chicken wire for hardware cloth. DH put the wire in trying to be helpful. :-)
I hope our girls will be happy!
Hi All!
I am a small backyard operation. We hatched out 4 EE chicks 5 weeks ago and are hoping to root out any roo's early to avoid making noise for our neighbours. Their moms were bantam EE's. Their dad is a standard BBS Ameracauna.

Hello all!
I am hoping someone can help me with my chicks. I ordered eggs from a farm and was told they are bantam ameraucanas. The lady said it was a BBS roo over buff hens. I'm wondering what colours I can expect my chicks to be?
My pickle is that like many other backyard enthusiasts I...
I set 24 jumbo coturnix eggs in my ancient 1976 Lyon Turn-X 'bator and today is day 17 of incubation!
I candled on day 12 and got rid of 2 glowing eggs but left the remaining 22 dark eggs.
One of the eggs was pipped when I noticed at 4am (lol) and is a slightly bigger pip now at 8:30am...
My aunt gave me eggs from her chickens. She ordered them all from a hatchery here in Canada last year and gave me 15 eggs to hatch. She keeps Buff Orps, Barred Rocks, and "ameraucanas" all with a buff orp rooster. Apparently the amaraucanas aren't good layers, so she only gave me brown...
Hello!
I'm Emily. My husband isn't keen on chickens but he's agreed that my happiness is more important. In respecting his feelings about birds, I'd like to do this coop by myself. I have an empty metal shed in the back corner of my yard. It is 5.5'x7.5' (is that weird? I was expecting...
I got a great pic of one of my 72 hour embryos today and thought I'd share!
I used my regular pocket digital camera on low light setting. I had the egg on a skirt of duct tape that I'd taped around the top of the $ store LED flashlight I used. Worked pretty well! This is a buff orp egg...
Hello,
I have recently inherited a Turn-X RX4 incubator. It's from 1976 (LOL) but after setting up it came to temperature within 3 minutes and then hovered between 98-101*. It seems to work quite well and the previous owner (original owner) told me it's always worked fine for the dozen time...
My quail stop mating when they get less than 14 hours of sunlight a day.
With this in mind, I'm curious if that's why I haven't seen my serama's mating yet at 24 weeks old?
Pls help!
Thanks!
She's broken the tip of her beak? The only thing attaching it to the rest of the beak is the end of the quick. It's not affecting her eating or anything...so I should just leave it, right? It will grow off, won't it?
Thanks!
Emily

I spoke, for 5 minutes, at our recent Municipal Council meeting on why the Municipality should amend their bylaws to allow backyard hens. A reporter from our local paper heard me and called me this morning! She said she heard me speak and was impressed with the story. She's coming by...

A fellow BYC was kind enough to make his extensive plans available and I really like the design. Of course, the plans themselves are fantastic. I'm thinking of making a few small changes...a 2x4 for a roost instead of a 1x2.
Did...
They take 16-18 days to hatch...my last hatch took a full 18 so I didn't figure this would be earlier. But, my new incubator works so smoothly that I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I woke up to one of the 13 pipped! A nice big pip too! Hopefully she'll come quickly and then the others...
