And that means lockdown, wheee!
I candled last night for the final time and will be locking down 39 eggs; 14 EE and 25 Ameraucana. Im pretty darn hyped about this hatch (cant ya tell? ) BUT Im also nervous Nellie because I want these chicks in a baaad way.
Now I have a question if I may...
To please take a look at Sullys wings (bottom left) she is a 3 month old brown Chinese, happy and healthy otherwise
Have you ever seen anything like this? And what can I do to fix it?
I think I may have inadvertently caused this weird positioning of the wing tips when I taped Sullys wings...
I received two Silkie eggs as extras when ordering eggs, and 1 made it to hatch.
What kind/colour of Silkie do we have here? I've never seen little chipmunk ones before....gender guesses are welcome too!
TIA!
Meet Col. Sanders, my lone BR chicken.
I'm really rooting for a pullet, but there have been signs....
- She is quite aggressive with the other girls, though has never jumped them like some of my confirmed boys.
- She is always sparring with the roos AND the pullets
- I think I see...
Our little 8x6 coop-in-progress has limited floor space and I've been racking my brain for days (ouch ) on how to use every inch to its best advantage.
Earlier today while I was out in the partially finished coop watching chick TV, I happened to notice how much space the poop board to be (ran...
We have a little chick named Nugget (named by the kiddies), who happens to be the runt of our small flock of 10. When we got the chicks at 3 days old, she was the smallest but also feisty and the first to come running for food/treats.
Over the past 4 weeks I've noticed she is not growing as...
My SIL was in the city yesterday so I had her pick up some chick starter as my supply is running low and our local feed store here can't tell medicated from unmedicated. Ahem.
Turns out the city one was all out of chick starter, so she brought me back a 50 pound bag of Silver Broiler Grower...
whether or not to cover the windows with hardware cloth. I think it's a must to predator proof the coop. He doesn't want to ruin the "look" of the windows, or even think it's necessary as the run is going to cover them up. Run will start at 7ft and taper down to 4ft.
So my two-part...
Our first coop building project is slowly but surely progressing (framed, sheathed, and roofed with hubby's help in 3 long, HOT, days....) but I've run into a wee problem: predator proofing via wiring the open gables is a real PITA! A very necessary step, but geez, I must be going about it the...
My not-so-little chickies are now 24 days old and I've been feeding them medicated chick starter that contains amprol.....so yesterday I sent hubby to the Co-op feed store in town (very SMALL town) and he comes back with a bag of starter that is supposedly medicated but does not contain amprol...
I have 10 little chickies and I'm really curious to know who's gonna be crowing in the not-so-near future.
Nine are EE (I think) and one BR. I'll add pics if it's doable.
Edited for pics: ok, here she ( ) is:
And I had to include Speck, my fav of the bunch. I'm pretty sure he's a...
We're a family of 5; hubby, myself, and three rowdy boys (lol) that recently moved from the big island city to small town rural Sask. Finally my dream of having chickens is coming true!
Our babies are 8 EE, 1 BR, and 2 mystery yellow fluff balls. Such sweetness!
I choose this little fluff ball from 10 others, hoping for a girl. And after reading many links regarding sexing BR chicks, I'm still unsure. Please tell me I didn't take a rooster!
First off, thank you for taking the time to read and (hopefully) answer these questions.
We just got ten 4 day old babies recently and its going fairly well, minus a little light issue. Ok, it wasn't really little (I believe I may have sunburned them, being under a 250 watt UV light) and...
Hi,
I'm new to chickens, just got my 3 day old babies yesterday and was using a 250 watt UV sunlight (per friends instructions) until this afternoon when I noticed the chicks were no longer opening their eyes. I turned the brights off and replaced with a red heat light. They were eating and...
