RIR Hen + BO Roo = RO?

This is the best looking 7 week roo I've ever had (Red Orpington?). He's very friendly and gentle. Loves for my grand daughter to hold him. He climbs up on her shoulder and rides around. I kind of hate to see him destinated for the stew pot but I already have a productive BO Roo.

    Tag team broodiness

So funny i have two Buff Orpington hens that are tag teaming about 23 eggs in the community nest. I broke them up tonight though. I candled all their eggs there were and 20 showed growth. I gave each hen 10 eggs each. I built a cage around the community nest box and put 10 eggs in the single...

    Turkey hen laid first egg

On of my burbon red turkey hens laid it's first egg. It was in the middle of the turkey yard. I picked it up and brought it into the house so it wont freeze. Assuming my turkey hens are going to brood, i want to give the egg back to the turkey once it starts sitting. How long will this egg be...

My Burbon Red turkeys started mating the second week of January and I have one buff Orpington sitting on 9 eggs 3 days now. Its just January 20th, i suspect more cold weather will hit southern IL in the next several weeks... Maybe not?

    BO Roo

I have a hatchery Buff Orpington Roo with several white feathers on his back. I assumed there was a bit of White Orpington crossed somewhere along the the way - is this correct? Probably best not to breed him if i want to stay closer to the buff color - correct?

     Homemade feed questions

I think i would like to try mixing up my own feed. But i would like to keep it as simple as possible with availible grains from rual king. I found this layer recipe in a Storey publication that seems pretty simple. But i think i would like about 18% protein. My layers seem to do best on 18% all...

    BR Turkey nest boxes

I'm looking for ideas for two turkey nest boxes. I have two Burbon Red hens and two Toms. All four were hatched in March 2016. Im not completely sure but i suspect the hens are getting ready to lay, because I had to seperate the toms due to some pretty serious agression twords each other. One...
