    Bathing baby chicks?

I was wondering how old do chicks need to be before bathing them? And what do you use, baby shampoo?

    What should I expect?

Now that my eggs are hatching, what can I expect over the first couple of days? How much energy should they be showing?

Our very first chick EVER! (PICS)

Okay, so this is the first time we have incubated any eggs or let a hen sit on any. We have one Mottled Houdan under the hen and 2 more Houdans and 3 White Crested Polish in the incubator. It is a homemade incubator and although I am confident I can do things I had never done this before...

My humidity has been 54% , we have it up to 67%, is that high enough? Also, there is condensation on the glass, is that a problem? Thanks for any input.

    1st Time Lockdown!

This is our first attempt at incubating, and we are doing it with a homemade bator. We started out with a dozen eggs. Some Mottled Houdans, and White crested polish. After candling and tossing out the bad, we have 3 of each. I am so excited I could almost wet my pants. This is probably...

    First Time Setter! :) (9-26-09)

I guess I'll start by explaining how this happened. We have had our chickens for about 4 months and trying to learn as we go. This site has been a great help along the journey. We have (4) 2yr old hens (2 Dominique, 1 Austrolorpe and 1 Something) and (7) 5mo old Golden Comets. One of the 2yr...

Hello, I am so excited, and am becoming addicted to this forum! I have 12 polish eggs coming today. We plan to put them in our homemade incubator Saturday afternoon. We were going to sit them in a egg carton. Do we take them out before we lock down? I've got the temp and humidity...

question about hatching under heat light?

Without going into a long story, I will just ask. Can you remove eggs from a broody hen on day 18, and hatch them under a heat light, possibly with a humidifier? Donna

    moving eggs?

Hi everyone, I have a broody hen that is sitting on two eggs for about a week. At first my husband and I thought that our rooster wasn't big enough to fertilize the eggs, so we ordered a variety of polish eggs for her to sit on. (which is coming in 2 days) Well last night we cracked...

    Question about broody hen

I am new to raising chickens and this is the first time I have had a broody hen. Not sure why she picked this time of year to sit but she has. I wasn't sure if she was broody or not but now I know as she has not left the nesting box for three days. My question - she has been sitting for three...

    I got it!!!!

So this problem started about a week ago when we noticed a couple pullets missing. They disappeared one day while free ranging. At first didn't think much about it thinking that maybe they wondered off and would be back that night for "bed check". Turns out they didn't show up. The next day...
