    Eggs Cracking in Incubator

Im using the incubator warehouse turner for the genesis. I set 70 quail eggs 7 days ago and have had to pull 3 out so far due to an end of the egg being caved in. I know that the turner being universal does not have the optimum slot width for coturnix eggs but has anyone else experienced this...

    First hatch

Last night I set 42 mixed pharaoh and a&m eggs from my own flock. I then found a breeder 5 minutes from me that I'm getting a 1/2 dozen each of silver, cinnamon queen,Italian speckled and tibetan to add this morning. My wife was drooling over pix of these colors last night and I just became her...

    Genesis calibration problem

I just set up my hovabator genesis 1588 and it is running hot by 1,3 degrees. I followed the directions and got to the adjustment screen but the + and - buttons don't change anything. Am I missing something?

    Soft shells...

The last two days I have gotten 1 egg with a shell so soft that it crushed when I picked it up. Their feed has calcium. I free offer three bowls in the aviary. One of oyster shells one of chicken shells and one of quail shells all always full. Help a brother understand.

    Brooder heat for 50 quail.

I used a Brinsea Ecoglow 20 for my last batch of 17 coturnix quail. I will be setting 70 eggs and hoping for 50 peeps and know that it will not be big enough. If i use that on one end and a 75w Zoo Meds true infrared bulb at the other, will that be enough?

    Blue Poo?

I have 12 coturnix hens and 3 roos in my aviary and last night discovered 2 piles of blue poop. Everyone looks healthy but I've never heard of this. Any ideas? I'd love to post a picture but uploading pix is disabled on Android with no indication that it will be fixed.

    Quail aviary

My wife and I decided to build an aviary for our coturnix. When complete it will be 8'x16' split in half. I'll add pix of the build as I progress. Building in 100 degree weather yesterday took a toll on me. Well I guess I'll have to wait until I get WiFi at the new house as the moble version...

    When do they crow?

One of my coturnix just gave the first crow at 25 days old. What age do they normally start?

What local deals have you found?

I just ran across a breeder local to my new home (we move end of the month) that sells fertile eggs in choice of pharaoh, cinnamon, and golden (all bred isolated, no mutts) for $4 per dozen or $7 for 2 dozen. This will be great as I will not have to worry about shipping mortality other than a...

    Poisonous plants?

Will coturnix eat plant leaves that are poisonous, or do they know and avoid them?

    ormal coturnix behavior?

(Normal*) I have noticed that during the daytime my 1.5 week old cots will lay down to nap often in a big tangled mess, but they ALL sleep standing at night time. Is this odd or normal? No wonder they sleep 1/2 the day, they're tired from standing around all night.

    A chick named Hope

Or, I cooked my quail, now what? The brooder is set up; water, feed, heat, check. I pick up 18 2-day old Coturnix chicks from a local breeder, 9 A&M, 9 Pharaoh and place them in their new home. For heat I'm using a Brinsea Ecoglow 20 but temporarily ditched the legs in favor of using what I...

    The starting numbers gamble

My cot chicks should be ready to pick up next week as 2 day olds from a local breeder. I am hoping to start with 8 hens for two breeding groups. I think I have myself convinced that 18 is the magic number to likely get me there. What ratios have you started with and how...

Moving out of state, transporting quail

I will be moving into my new home soon and need advice on transporting a dozen 4 week old coturnix that will be housed in a 22 gal bin for the trip. My question is on water and feed. The drive is likely to take 8 hours and I am wondering (more about water) some of the ways I can ensure my...
