    Hatching issues

I've been having all kinds of hatching issues this season. In the past to hatches everybody has been a little bit late coming out of the show. At least two days making for a 30 day incubation period. In my last hatch I had one duckling that hatched with crookneck, that duckling did not survive...

    Super glue

This afternoon while engaging in some consensual duck cuddles home girl got her toenail caught in my sweater. I've got her cleaned up, and was thinking about how to bandage the wound. I was thinking super glue would work as it's original purpose was as a liquid suture. Thoughts?

Who's Laying? or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Food Coloring

For those of you who weren't following along last week, the question of being able to ID who lays what egg came up over in this thread. I can't remember why, but it did. I'm very interested in the idea of knowing WHO has laid what egg, since as I mentioned in this thread I have a duck on meds...

Injured duck - Leg Was Tied - Photo attached

The rain we've had the last few days caused the stream to rise a bit yesterday. It also caused some trash to make its way downstream. I came home yesterday afternoon to a duck with a length of string wrapped tightly around her leg and tangled up with two saplings. I had to climb to the other...

    Lost a duck need advice.

This afternoon I came home early to do duck chores. I noticed I was down a duck. I started looking around and after about 15 minutes I found her body in the stream. I need some assistance figuring out cause of death. There is snow on the ground, and there are paw prints, but the snow isn't...

What to do about bad laying habits or is it something else?

Howdy folks. Sunday afternoon my husband called me from the coop.. asking if we were missing any ceramic eggs. I told him that one had gone missing about a year ago, but other than that none had gone missing recently. I headed out to see what was up and he pointed out something that DEFINITELY...

    What's the likelihood?

Okay so I've posted before about waiting for eggs from my hatches from the spring, and it wasn't long ago that I started to get one.. one. So I assume this is coming from one of the older gals... light blue and dark blue hatched within 24 hrs of each other, but only one is laying (unsure of...

    What will you do differently?

Now that fall is settling in and those of us in North America settle in for winter, I’m looking back over the hatch season and thinking about how I might be able to improve things, and what I might change for next year. I for one know know that when hatching season starts up next year I’m...

    First egg from new layer

After a looming hiatus, I am finally getting eggs again as of this morning. (yay!) Being that this is either the first egg or the first egg in 5 months + for the lady who laid it, I’m not surprised that it would be a little wonky, but I don’t quite know how to ID this? Is this Cuticle?

    Considering quail.

Hello, I spend a fair amount of my time over in the duck forum, and am considering adding quail to my poultry yard. I'm new to quail, and have some questions that I'm hoping you can help with. Species - I was considering coturnix. I'm hoping for meat and eggs. I think they are a match? I...

    Claret bib?

I've been perusing Storey's guide as of late, and have come across a few references to claret bibs. "...undersized claret bib on the chest in males are highly objectionable." I can't seem to find any mention of what a claret bib is however. Just wondering if anyone could fill me in.

    Duck toys

I read a post the other day that described ducks as puppies with feathers, and talked about giving the ducks balls and other toys for them to interact with. It's been on my mind for a few days now and I'm now wondering what toys folks have given to their ducks if any?
