how do I get a broody hen to leave the nest and stay off it. Our rooster was ran over by a kid on purpose and so I know the eggs are not fertile. She has been on the nest over 3 weeks.
I just received a new hen from a friend, she stayed in the hen house for the first 2-3 days. I went to check on her and I saw where she had busted open the eggs the other hens laid and was eating them. Can this behavior be stopped or do I get rid of the new hen? Thanks
I knew it would happen sooner or later. I prayed for later, much later. I have 15 assorted chickens. My wife HAD one very beautiful flower gard n. HAD!!! I don't want to have to make a choice here, but if I have to chose her or the chickens I think she will write to me eventually, don't you...
I've been getting 1-2 eggs a day from 8 hens. They just started laying about a month ago. I work away from home 14 days them home for 14 days. I have brush pile in the yard out by the hen house for cover from predators if they need it. I checked there for eggs before I went to work 2 weeks...
I have a bantam hen that started sitting on one of her eggs and four other eggs full size. That was 3+ weeks ago, now she has 15 full size eggs which I know is way to many. Her egg hatched and was killed by the RIR that has been laying in the nest with her. Should I remove all but 6-8 eggs and...
Had coyotes come up last night took 3 of my guineas. When I shut them in at dark there were 5 on the roof of the coop, 2 inside and 3 on the ground. I figured they would get up on the roof like they did the night before so I didn't try to put them in. This morning I went to open the door at dawn...
I have 4 RIR's, 4 Black Marans (I think, could be black beauties) 5 bantams, only 1 pullet bantam, 1 Bramha pullet 2 Bramha roosters, 10 guieneas. All chickens are approx 16 weeks, guineas about 18-19 weeks. Been waiting on eggs forever it seems and today I found 5 small eggs, some with tiny...
For the second night my guineas opted not to roost in the coop, but roost on the coop. We have predators, coons, coyotes, owls, occasional hawk but none for quite a few months. Anyone see any reason to make them go in the roost. Will they go in the roost this winter? Thanks Willie
What are the chances my guineas will lay in the nest boxes in the coop? Or is it more likely the will lay in some outside area under brush or other cover? Thanks
I have 10 guineas 12-14 weeks old raised from 2 day old keets along with 16 various breed chickens all in the same coop and run. Everything was fine up till about a week ago. Now the guineas are aggressive to the chickens (run at them trying to peck team) and the guieneas have isolated 1 guienea...
I have guineas, Bramahas, RIR and bantams. Should I make the bantams a smaller nest box lower to the ground. I have 3 which are 14x14x12 18" high. Thanks Willie
I began building my first chicken coop 3 weeks ago+\-, built all 4 walls and stood them up and bolted them together then put the rafters on. It is 14'x7', the walk in door will be on the south side east end. I set 10 4x4 solid oak post 30" in the ground drilled holes through the bottom plate...

I have 10 pearl guineas 3 of which have 1 white feather on each wing. It seems I have read something about the pearls with the white wing feathers on this site but if I did I could not find it again. Is there any significance to these white feathers. Thx
I'm kinda new to raising chickens (we raised them till I was about 10-12 yrs old) now I have some of my own. With the temperature upper 90's to low 100's can I put a water mister out in their run. The only shade they have is in their coop and it is small with a tin roof.
I have one guinea left from the original 14, the last one I believe to be a female. She now comes to the back patio door and will spend hours looking in the glass (I suppose at her reflection) thinking she has a mate. Does this sound right???? What if anything should I do?????
Hi I'm new to guineas and new to this site. I started with 14 keets early this spring, at 10 weeks I let them out and kept a close eye on them and before long they were getting in the tree next to their coop and would not go in on their own, so I would flush them from the tree and herd them in...
