My silkie chick has stopped eating and drinking and is laying down and stopped chirping, the crop was squishy so gave a little olive oil on beak and then she started sicking up yellow fluid, she is now laying motionless and shook head a couple of times. Not sure if she will survive the night...
I had 1 chick hatch out today by my pair of silkies, they were all fine and chick was hidden under mum , later when we looked we find the hen and cockerel had been pecking all over one side of chicks head so took him out straight away, is it normal for mum and dad to behave in this way?
I have a pair of silkies and the hen has been sitting on just 1 egg the whole time, is it normal just to have 1 egg? Also the egg is due to hatch this weekend, I want the hen to look after the chick naturally like in the wild and I have not got a heat lamp. Should I go and buy a brooder/ lamp...
I need to redo my chicken run as it is full of mud and have had so much rain it is not very nice to walk in to. Can anyone advise on which type of sand is best to use? I have been told sand is best.
I have a pair of silkies with a couple of chicks due in 2 weeks, how do I go about feeding them if they stay together in the coop. As I will have normal pellets and chick crumb?
My silkie has been laying in the nesting box all day so I thought perhaps she had laid an egg and was sitting on it but when I looked tonight there was nothing there, is this a sign that she is becoming broody? She has not laid on any eggs before this.
