Hello,
I have a question regarding rules about posting. (no complaints, I simply need to ask if something is okay to post BEFORE I do so)
Can I PM an Administrator for permission so that I do not have to post the questions publicly?
Thanks!
Matt
Our rat terriers would not stop barking this afternoon. Walked out and saw a huge red tail hawk in one of our outside pens. The dogs were not more than ten feet away, but couldn't get in. It didn't fly until it saw us.
This was a full-grown Lavender Orpington rooster......Picked the bones...
Finally snapped some pictures today--
I hope these will convince everyone of just how great mottling can really look on Lavender!
These are of an 8 or 9 month old pullet. We have built up a nice size flock.
******** UPDATE ************* February 11th **********
Our orders now have us into the month of March for shipping.
We will leave this post up for a few more days, but then remove it for Spring advertising as we catch up on orders. THANK YOU ALL !!!
We are now taking orders for our...
I shipped several batches of day-old chicks last year, with no problems, just following the fairly simple USPS regulations posted on their site.
1) I'm now reading on several different sites that MANY zip codes (post offices) are no longer accepting live chick shipments at all. (some...
I'm going to be staggered hatching for the first time in my 1502.
I've never paid attention while the door was open to how much clearance there would be for the eggs/chicks in the hatching box while the egg turner is fully tilted.
So, my question is whether or not I can leave the egg turner...
About a month ago I posted that I had received the newest model of the 1502. In the packing literature, GQF stated that this "two-fan model" was their newest design and asked for feedback after hatching. Prior to setting my first batch of eggs, I tried it out for several days. The temp was...
Received my 1502 yesterday. No eggs, but have had it running for 24 hours now to test. I've done everything exactly by the book and all plugs are in place (or open) as they should be. The temp is right on. However, the humidity will not go over 38%. Isn't this low? There is water in the...
I'm looking at getting the 1202A or 1502. I will be using the one unit as both incubator and hatcher, sometimes having up to three staggered settings in at one time. I have a few questions for experienced owners:
1) They are the same unit with the 1202A $100 cheaper and less sophisticated...
Wanting to know if Black Australorps can reliably be used to produce sexlinks. If so, what other breeds, hen or roo, what color would the chicks be? Thanks!
Please share your thoughts on this hatchery. I'm specifically interested in their White Rocks. They claim that they are larger than average and are great layers.
I'm a chicken man, but would like to get into some "free range" (actually a large fenced in yard area) ducks. The only problem is that there is no water for them to get into. I've read that Muscovy do fine without water, but are not very productive egg layers. I really like the sound (and egg...
Does anyone have a picture of a RED (RIR or NH) cross with a BLACK (Australorp or Orpington)? What would this look like? And if you continued to breed each generation back to itself, would color/pattern ever become uniform?
Without getting into feather color/markings, can someone explain how the results will vary from cross breeding a rooster from breed A over a hen from breed B and vice versa? I've read conflicting info on this. I've read that "type" more reliably comes from the hen. Others say that if breeding...
For whatever reason, this is without a doubt my favorite breed. However, I have not found much interest in them...on BYC or elsewhere. I think some of the RIR loyalist might see them as a red-feathered step-child, but I'm not sure why others seem to have a lack of interest.
Anyway, Laura H...
They say they are from the "Newcomer strain" and have been "improved upon yearly on their on farm." Has anyone tried them from here?
A search of the Newcomer strain doesn't really come up with anything meaningful...
