I was given a chick yesterday at the feed store because it appeared to have splay leg. I braced its legs together but it is having issues standing up. It's still moving around on it's belly but is able to drink water, haven't seen it eat though. Should I brace its legs higher up to help it stand?
Has anyone used bird biotic for their chickens? I've got a couple layers with signs of a respiratory infection and my TSC doesn't carry tylan 50, so I have bird biotic which is doxycycline I'm just not sure if it's safe to eat the eggs if I give it to them. I know there's usually a withdrawal...
Okay so this is Hei-Hei. She's about 7-8 months old, does not crow, attempt to mount any of the other hens or anything else. Comb and wattles are not even slightly red, but has recently started challenging me a little. It could also be due to the feathers blocking her eyes but it has me...
I noticed about 2 days ago that my favorite hen, 1 year old ee, was just sleeping standing up while everyone else was running around. I brought her in to separate her and her crop was empty. I've been giving her water via a syringe but haven't noticed her eating still. She's just slowly falling...
So about 3 weeks ago my silkie and Wyandotte started laying, they layed their first egg and haven't layed since then. At the same time I have an Ancona that's just over a year old. She usually gives me an egg every other day and I haven't gotten anything from her since the other 2...
So I finally figured out what is wrong with my poor rooster that I posted about a couple weeks back. One of his ear canals is swollen almost completely shut. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to treat him. I don't have a local avian vet so my options are pretty limited to what I can get at...
I just noticed today that my BLR wyandotte cockrel was walking around with his head tilted to the side. When I went to pick him up he sat down with his head looking straight up. I've only seen wry neck in new chicks, never one this old. Has anyone successfully treated wry neck in an older bird...
I have a hen that went broody in March. She hatched and took care of her babies and has been back to laying for a couple weeks. My problem is that I've been getting less eggs than normal, and I've had eggs go missing from the nesting box. I just saw my broody run out of the coop with an egg...
Got this pullet back in March and was told she was a cochin. I recently added a light brahma chick to my flock and have noticed they look very similar. Thoughts?
I have a 3 weeks old chick that unfortunately got attacked by my older hens last night. They pecked all her feathers off her neck and down to the muscle on the back of her neck. I've got her separated in the house now but the wound seems like it's getting worse. I've cleaned it and medicated it...
So I have a 4 month old rooster who has just started crowing and mounting. The problem is that he has been in the small coop with my one legged hen and I don't want him to hurt her or over breed her since she's the only mature hen in the coop with him (I have some younger pullets in the coop but...
I think my Cochin is going broody but I'm not sure. I've never had a broody hen. She's been sitting in the nesting box for 2 days so far. I've seen her leave once but she was sitting in there instead of roosting last night. Any advice? I just got rid of my rooster last week so the eggs she's...
About a week ago I got 2 silkie chicks and a wyandotte chick, I noticed the day after I got them one of the silkies was getting pastybutt. I got it cleaned up and it has been fine for the past couple of days but when I checked this morning it looked like it was getting pastybutt again. The other...
I have an established flock of 5 hens with 1 RIR rooster that are all the same age. I recently got some new chicks, 1 is around 13 weeks old that i am almost positive is a cockrel, he's a beautiful chick and i don't really want to get rid of him. Does anyone have a flock with more than one...
