So, day 21 doesn't officially start until 5pm tonight.. but this morning at 6 am I heard a faint little peep from the bator while doing dishes.. I wandered over, shined the flashlight in the bator and saw one egg has a tiny hole in it. Good to know since those brown eggs aren't too easy to...
About a week ago my wife asks me..
"Hon, our anniversary is coming up, what would you like for a present?"
"A GQF Hovabator Genesis 1588 with autoturner!"
She then says "What's that?" so I quickly ebayed it up and showed her.
It arrived yesterday and I loaded it up today with 23 eggs that...

Well I went out to check on the chickens today and noticed two of my cornish x rocks were starting to have difficulty walking. They didn't come running to the feed dish when I dumped the feed in. Usually they're at the dish before I am. I watched as they labored to "hop" to the feed dish. I...

bumped in to this today, thought y'all might get a kick out of it.
Take note of the broody leghorn, when was the last time any of you saw that!
Howdy y'all.. here's the chicks from my order.. Well the order was for the tolouse goose and the chicks are the "warmers" for the geese. Hah. I ordered the geese from Ideal as a birthday present for my mom. The chicks were added for warmth (12 chicks). The chicks are unknown breed as ideal...
Just thought I'd share that eventhough I've had my share of "bad stuff" happen, I have not a single thing to complain about.
I have a roof over my head.
I have food in my belly.
I have a wife who loves me.
I have a job.
Just remember no matter how bad you think you've got it, 95% of the world...
It's finally done, sorry it took so long but I found the float switches difficult to get. I ordered spares if anybody else is interested. So... here it is..

Man, I've never seen one like this, probably the least nasty method I've seen so far.
Warning: bird put to death with this tool in this video, don't watch if you're squeemish.

So it's just about dusk, the beagles are out in the yard playing.. then they both start howling like crazy.. I mean really going nuts. Last time they did that my neighbor was wandering around the yard with a flashlight looking for his cat. So of course I get up to go see what the heck is going...
Ok silly question, I'll explain later..
But.. about how tall are the chicks when you put them in the coop with the full grown chickens. And on average, about how tall are your full grown chickens?
Hey everybody.. collecting information on what you believe is your favorite butchering tools. (knives, gutters, pluckers, dispatchers etc)
In another thread there was a discussion of wringing necks, chopping off heads with axes, slicing necks with knives.. then I saw a link about a dispatcher...
Which bator would you reccomend? I've seen them as cheap as $15 (3 egg) clear up to $900. So for someone starting out, what would be your bator of choice?
And the best place to start is research. So, I'm heavily considering starting a mini-chicken farm to supply the family with eggs and meat.
I've done some basic "figuring" and have come up with a coop design. For the egg production their section will be 20'x16' with a 4' wide, 16' long 3' high...
