I free range my hens. And only this year have I let a few hens hatch eggs instead of incubating.
I have a young hen who has laid her eggs under my front porch in the box that keeps the dirt from going in to the foundation vent. It is a out 4 to 5 inches deep. Chicks have been hatching since...
5 babies. 3 blue Australourp/Jersey Giant crosses 2 Australourp/RIR crosses
I am thinking I have 3 pullets and 2 cockrels.
I only know 1 for sure is a cockrel and just guessing on the other 4.
So I had 6 viable eggs at lock down. 2 have hatched. 1 pipped yesterday almost 24 hours ago. But it pipped on the bottom. The other 2 rolled it all over the place. Now the pip is on top. The baby is cherping away, and rocking but still hasnt made any progress in over 8 hours. The temp is at 99.7...
I was given this rooster. I first initially thought blue Jersey Giant. But it was pointed out to me he is missing some characteristics. To many points on his comb, bottom of feet are a light pink not yellow, and his tail is not full like a JG.
He reminds me of my old Orpington Roooster.
What...
I just aquired this stunning rooster yesterday.
Does he look like a pure breed Blue Jersey Giant or a mix with something else?
The bottoms of his feet have a very faint pink to them and not bright yellow like my hens. But I have heard that could from hormones.
1)What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
4 year old wyandotte. No she is at good weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. She is acting normal doing normal things for her.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? 2 days...
3 week old Easter Egger bantam cochin wyandotte crosses.
I know they are probably to young to tell. But I know some people can tell on patterns on EE's. Which 1 has. The other 1 is black with some white feathers in wings. But somehow has a black comb. Why I am not sure as neithe parents had one.
I have 2 silkie cross hens (with what I have no idea) and the roo is a cochin/wyondotte cross.
I hatched 4 of their eggs 2 weeks ago. 2 are very slow at feather growing and 2 are very rapid. Does anyone know what sex they would possibly be.
The first pic is the roo. Black
The second is 1 of...
I hatched
4 silkie/cochin/wyondotte crosses
2 cochin/wyodotte/easter egger crosses
The father is a bantam cochin/wyandotte cross
2 from the silkie cross mommas have very short wing feathers and 2 have very long wing feathers.
Both chick from the easter egger mommas ave very long wing feathers.
I am new to Jersey Giants. This 1 in throwing me for a loop. I think its a pullet. It doesn't have a huge comb or wattles. But the tail is quit confusing. The tail is quit different than the 2 others. They are starting to loose baby featers now.
Any help would be appreciated.
I placed 13 eggs in incubator 9 days ago. Last night I candled all 13. I can see movement in 1 egg. Though I can't see any veining. I can not see anything in any of the others. Should I wait a few more days and check again before removing the others? Temp is at 99.5 and humidity I try to keep...
I aquired a Black Cochin Bantam Rooster almost 3 months ago. He has been very docile. Him and a few hens had it out and I let it play out. Everything has been fine. But the little guy every morning chases the girls around to mate. They run screaming. Poor girls. Most of them don't want to mate...
I have this really old chicken I was given 3 years ago. This morning I noticed after I let them out when I went back in she was still in the same spot. I noticed her eyes were swollen shut and she has a large black spot on her comb that formed and I have been trying to watch it but she never...
One of my 4 ducks is showing what I think it is a niacin deficiency. These are my first ducks. My husband showed up with them 3 weeks ago as a surprise. I put brewers yeast on their food at every refill. And have them on chick stater. Please help me. I would like advice feom people with experience.
I got 3 standard cochins. 1 is very tiny compared to the others and has a different tail and feather growth rate. The one in question is the partridge. Or maybe it's a bantam which would explain the size.
I sent my husband to tractor supply for a new water trough for my horse. He came home with ducklings. But he said that the sign said assorted ducklings. So I don't know what they are.Great surprise.
I have 32 chickens. But I have never had ducks. So I am way excited. They are so darn cute. I...
I got 3 cochin chicks 2 weeks ago. I know it is to soon tell pullet from cockrel. They are all sold as pullets. But that doesn't mean anything from my experience. As I had gotten buff orpingtons all supposed to be pullets. One didn't grow tail feathers till way late. It ended up being a cockrel...
From my local feed store I purchased
3 Blue Jersey Giants which these are my first
3 assorted Cochins
The Jersey giants were sold as blue. One I suspect will be Black. But the other 2 have white wing feathers coming in. All 3 have partial slate blue legs. 1 has a light comb and the other 2...
