    Webcam to the new coop

Had a new coop built. This one has a cement floor because no matter what we did with the floor with the old coop, "critters" would still dig through and eat the food. Here's a link: http://www.friscofarms.tzo.com/img/main.cgi?next_file=main.htm

Can chickens be scared to death - really, scared enough to keel over?

Went out the other morning to find 18 dead chickens all over the place. They were spread out among 2 pastures. Most of them had no signs of injuries at all. Nothing. About 4 of them had head and/or necks eaten or missing. I am assuming it was raccoons. My question is: What happened to the...

I ordered 10 Americanas, 5 copper marans, 5 black star sex-links, 5 spanish (they are black with white faces), and they threw in 2 extra sex-links. 27 chicks, all arrived ALIVE and healthy! Yea! Now I have about 62 hens, 4 guineas, 3 roosters and about 12 or 13 goats. Here's the link to the...

What predator ripped through the chicken wire?

A friend of mine just lost all his hens in one fell swoop. See the picture below. Whatever it was ripped a hole through the chicken wire. They live in a very rural area with lots of woods and trees around. He had about 9 chickens and they were left in 2 "neat" piles, but they were very...

    Powdered Sulmet dosage for goat?

There doesn't seem to be much activity on the backyardherds forum, so I am posting here. I have a female about one year old. Has had "squishy" poop for many months now. I tried different wormers, Pepto Bismal, Pro-biotics, nothing works. She still eats and drinks and runs around with all the...

Let 4 week old guineas loose in the garden?

I have a 10 X 20 garden that is fenced in so the chickens can't get in there. Yesterday I noticed some beetles and bugs, and I do not want to use pesticides. What do you think if I let my 4 week old guineas in there to clean up the bugs? The fence is about 4 feet high. I wonder if they would...

    Chickens need to live outside!

People! I amazes me that people keep their chicks and chickens IN THE HOUSE for weeks and weeks. They need to be outside. They are livestock. Not only that, but it is smelly and dusty in the house. Release your chickens from the rubbermaid prison and let them enjoy the outdoors!

Your opinion on what breed these 7 week old chickens are?

Welsummer? It's the one in the back. She does not have any distinctive black in her tail feathers, so I don't think she is a RIR. Brahma? Silver Laced Wyandottes?

    Who has a guard donkey?

I saw in another post someone suggested a donkey to protect their livestock. I didn't want to hijack that thread, so for those of you who have one I have questions: Are they easy to take care of? I have goats. Will they eat the hay I give the goats? We have 3 acres that is fenced in so they...

Well, my dorking has been broody for weeks. Yesterday I noticed 2 new baby chicks. Today I went out there and the little" blondie" chick was standing on the edge of the nest ready to DIVE into the chicken coop with all the adult hens. I moved them and about 10 other eggs to a new pen...

Once a white egg layer, always a white egg layer?

I've been reading the posts about Easter Eggers and Americanas, etc. The chicken I thought was an EE is laying white eggs. Do they ever change colors, or will they always lay the same colored egg?
