Does such a thing even exist for chickens? In the past we fed our hens Layena, and it just never felt right to me. We are big into organics, non GMOs, no processed foods, etc., and I would love to do the same for our chickens.
Do any of you purchase such a feed for your chickens, and if so...
We always gave our hens raw apple cider vinegar to help keep parasites away. Is it ok to give this to new chicks for the same reasons? Also...I realize that we'll have to give them the feed for baby chicks (starter feed) but is it necessary to get the medicated kind? And is there anything else I...
A weasel recently killed all 7 of our beautiful babies (chickens), so we have decided to get 10-15 more from Tractor Supply next month. We live in MI, and winter doesn't officially end here until end of March/beginning of April.
My question is....we obviously already have a chicken coop, and...
I wasn't really sure where to put this because I can't list it as an auction, since we're a bunch of stores all together on one Congo. If this is out of line, please feel free to lock it. I just am honestly not sure.
I wanted to invite everyone to come visit my and a bunch of other mamas online...
Does anyone know if they still make the old fashioned water well hand pumps? If they do, does anyone know where to purchase them from, or who you have to hire to "install" them? Thanks so much for any help. I'd really like to get one eventually if they're not too expensive. That way we can still...
I just purchased a new book on Mini Farming and it says that when a chicken goes broody, you are supposed to take them out of the nesting box and put them in a rabbit hutch as their "broody cage" or they will stay broody indefinitely. It says to make sure that it's a wire bottom with no litter...
A few weeks ago I lost a chicken possibly due to heat. One day she was fine, then the next she was weak, had a hard time breathing, and I babied her a lot. The other chickens had attacked her and I had to bandage her little head up and took good care of her. She had been healing up well and I...
Can anyone tell me why my hens have started to cannabalize their own eggs? They just started doing this yesterday, and did it again today. They aren't doing it to all of the eggs, just usually one per day. It's frustrating, but they obviously love the flavor of it, because they crack a hole in...
I'm really concerned that one of my hens may have had an egg break inside of her. They poop on top of the nesting box at night and when I went in to gather eggs this morning, there was bloody goopy looking stuff and a tinge of yellow that looked like it might be yolk. What should I do? None of...
I am wondering how often I should be checking my hens' vents? We checked 4 of our 9 girls today, and all looked fine (at least I think they did). I am gathering from what I've read thus far, that if they had a prolapse, I'd definitely know it, as well as being egg bound (it'd be bulging and very...
I got this egg from one my girls yesterday. This has never happened before, and they have access to free range on grass, and also get Layena daily & grit once a week too. So I'm not sure why this would happen? I broke it open and there was no white, only the yolk. It was very strange. Here are...
We have Buffs and I'm pretty sure that they have scaly leg mites. From what I've read on here, 1/4cc is the correct dosage to give regular sized birds. I just want to confirm that this is correct before giving it to them. Also, how many days do you need to throw their eggs away after giving them...
We just purchased 4 - 2 year old Buff Orpingtons earlier this week. They're all hens. When I went in to check for eggs this morning, I found blood lightly spattered on top of the nesting box, where they sleep at night. I immediately knew that it was from their feet, but decided to look anyway...
We have the chance to purchase some Buff Orpingtons from my MIL's neighbor. I know that she takes VERY good care of these chickens, and she said that right now they are being broody and wanting to sit and hatch their eggs.
I've been doing some research about this breed and have found that they...
The man that we bought our chickens from told us that he had one who laid humungous eggs and wasn't sure which one. So he said that we might get her. We've had our 5 girls for about 3ish weeks now and up to this point have gotten some nice x-large sized eggs. Some, just barely fitting into the...
We recently purchased 5 black sexlinks that are now nearly a year old. We are thinking about getting 2 araucanas from the same man, but they are significantly younger. I'm thinking they will be between 2 and 3 months old in a month from now, which is when he said to give him a call back. We are...
Can anyone help me out with these questions?
Do you have to keep the babies under heat lamps constantly?
Also, can ducks & chickens peacefully co-exist in the same enclosure, or would they have to have separate living spaces?
We do not have a pond but I was thinking about getting a small pool...
I'm sorry if this has been asked here before, but I kind of consider this an emergency. I am EXTREMELY new to the world of having chickens, as we just got ours 3 days ago. These are our first ones ever, so yeah, I'm a total newbie at this.
Although I did try to research ahead of time and tried...
