I need help. I need a divorce & don't even know how to begin. I have three kids at home & have stayed at home since they were little. I homeschool 2 of them (12 & 15) and the 20 year old is in a local college this year. On top of it, I just turned 50 & feel so old.
I won't go into too...
Does anyone have a favorite book or magazine that helps you now or in the past with genetics in breeding your chickens? Something that you "turn to" often perhaps or "couldn't do without?"
I have had only a small amount of genetics in HS Biology "way-back-when" with fruit flies. Yet, I...
I have 4 males & 6 females. The males are fighting a little bit now & I think it will get worse in the spring? By "fighting," I mean one male chases the other around until it bites other on the back of the neck and holds on tightly...it looks like it hurts a lot.
I was thinking of...
I started two of my children on piano lessons this summer with a super sweet young lady who is a college Freshman nearby. But I need to cancel them permanently as she really cannot teach very well.....yet. (I think she will be able to in a few years though.)
I just don't know how to do...
Last year my whole backyard was coated in yellow jackets hovering and "terrorizing" everyone, everything, everywhere.
This year I have some pretty buff and cayuga ducks and maybe one or two yellow jacket occasionally. I can even go outside to pick and eat the figs off my fig tree this...
I would love to just raise a few turkey for processing (hopefully) in the fall about 2 to 4 ?
I found out here on BYC that they are very noisy & I have closer neighors, but when do they get noisy?? Are they just plain noisy from birth?
I was thinking I could process them before they got...
I have some crested ducks on order now from Ideal due NEXT WED.
The males & females will all be crested. To have babies ducklings next year with a crest, should I have non-crested & non-crested? Or should I stick with the all crested like I have....I can still call them & change my order...
What do you think....
My kids have outgrown their 2-story playhouse & there is quite a bit of great wood I could use from it for a nice Coop & Run for my little Silkies.
BUT it is treated~~So does anyone know if I painted it with a Non-Toxic paint if it would be OK to use for them?
I...
I was just wondering if it is legal to buy any poultry eggs from Canada if you are in the US and vice versa? I have not done so...I was just wondering.
First I had 27 Cornish Rocks sent and I ended up with 19 after predators (neighbor's dog and some hawks) got some. And I have a 5' chain link fence all around.
Then they smell unbelievably bad no matter how clean I tried to keep them. And they were very ugly IMHO.
Today, I butchered...
It's a Runner!
It was the only only one that hatched from a local breeder. He lives with the new baby chicks I bought at the same time.
It will sleep in your hand so sweetly.
This is the first time I have ever held a duckling! Just wanted to show you all.

Would it be a good idea to wash them first?
I have 16 duck eggs I just bought locally for $10. (12 Khaki Campbells, Mallard, Crested)
But they are Filthy & I now hesitate to put them in my incubator!
How would you all wash them (if you do?)
Thanks for your Help!
We recently discovered that applying ice (gently rubbing over the face for about 10 min or so at night) has helped to stop smaller and those deeper, larger cysts from developing for the most part on one of my teenagers.
This is just one more way to "do battle" with their acne along with diet...
All Silkie People! I'd love to see your coops~~
I want to make a new permanent coop for my 9 silkies & I need lots and lots of great ideas.
Can't wait to see them all......
~~Black Austrolorps. Are they really good egg-layers even through the summers & winters?
My nine standard laying hens only layed maybe 1 to 2 eggs a day this last winter. I still like them though......
But I soooo want eggs all year round!
Yellow Jackets overran my whole yard last summer making it almost impossible to enjoy anything out there....kids won't play out there~~too many agressive attacks.
Does anyone have some really great ways of getting rid of them permanently or at least control them to a great extent...
