    Lame chicken ... help!

I have a Buff Orpington hen that is 10 months old. Two weeks ago I noticed she was lame so I brought her in hoping her leg would heal. Unfortunately there seems to be no improvement. She walks on her hock. She has no noticeable injuries or ailments, other than she's limping. She had been eating...

Chicken poo pic ... Is this normal or should I be worried?

I have a 8 week old RIR pullet. I found several of these droppings in her pen this morning and this afternoon (see pic). I've read a bit about normal intestinal shedding and coccidiosis. I did run to the store to get some Corid in case I need it. Is this normal or not? She has several of these...

    Should I feed medicated feed?

I have a group of chicks that is about 8 weeks old and another that is about 7 weeks old that I'd like to move outside. They've been on non-medicated feed thus far. Should I switch them to medicated feed before putting them outside or can I continue with the non-medicated variety?

Humidity ... how high is too high during hatching?

It's day 21 and I have seven eggs that are in my incubator. One died during pipping this morning and another two have hatched late this afternoon and tonight. Humidity is up to 76%. Should I be alarmed? How high is too high for the rest of the unhatched eggs?

My new chick is lonely! Please send good vibes!

I'm on day 21 of hatching. Yesterday I had one pip but no zip and I'm pretty sure it has died ... no activity with it and it just looks different than it did earlier. One other one has hatched. She made it out in about 3 hours. Now I'm waiting for 5 others to hatch. I'm hoping they do so soon. I...

Pipping but no zipping after 24 hours ... help! pics

I was so excited to see my first chick pipping yesterday morning at Day 20! Now 24 hours later at Day 21 it's barely progressed and just seems to be sitting there. Is it already too late or is there something that I can do? I know it was still alive last night because we saw it moving and heard...

7 1/2 week old black Ameraucanas ... pullets or roosters? Please help!

I have 6 Ameraucana chicks that are about 7 and a half weeks old. Most of them I'm able to tell which are males and females but I'm confused on these two. Can someone help? Here's Chicken #1. It doesn't have many tail feathers, but also doesn't have a comb that's as large or as red as a couple...

I'm about ready to move my chicks outside. Any advice?

I'm about ready to move my chicks outside. They're about seven weeks old. Does anyone have any suggestions for doing that safely? I'm still feeding them chicken starter (non-medicated) and nothing else. Will I have to worry about them getting coccidiosis? Should I move them outside gradually for...

Are my Rhode Island Reds pullets or roos?

I purchased four one-week-old chicks from a young man who indicated they were all pullets. Two are Welsummers and two are RIRs. I'm pretty certain my Welsummers are roos (see pic), and now I'm beginning to question my RIRs as well. Can anyone tell me if these RIRs are girls or boys? I've...
