Hi!
Just looking for some help on IDing this little guy we have. My daughter is interested in joining 4H and showing him, however I'm not sure what breed he is. His name is Phil and he's the friendliest little guy ever!
Is Silver Duckwing Old English Bantam a possibility?
TIA!!
We are moving and will be transferring our flock into a new coop and run. Currently they have a TON of space. Their run is 20x30 and their coop is 8x8. We have 11 total chickens....2 roos (one silkie and one showgirl, both very mild tempered), 5 medium size hens, and 4 bantam hens. Below is a...
Good Afternoon!
So I set the eggs yesterday...aaaggghhh....I'm a nervous wreck!
I am the Troop Leader for my daughter's Daisy Scout Troop and this year we are taking an Animal Journey! I thought it would be prefect to incubate eggs! We have had chickens for the past 3 years and are very...
Hi`
I plan on starting to compost my chicken poop and shavings for use in my garden next year.....seems like I'm too late for this season!
This is what I was planning on doing....please let me know if I'm on the right track....
Daily I clean under my roost, I was going to add this to the...
I have a RIR that is 9 months old. She is a happy chicken but some days (today for instance) she walks around really crouched down so low that her belly is practically dragging on the ground. When she does this she also slightly wiggles her back end. Sometimes she'll walk sideways while she is...
I have a 3 week old Barred Rock Pullet who seems to be itching more than the others I have. How much is normal preening and itching and what is excessive?
I was down watching the brooder for about 3-4 mins and she did it the entire time. Under her wings, her behind and her chest. I have...
HI~
I received 4 baby chicks last week from MPC. One of my little Barred Rocks didn't look well right out of the box and it took her much longer to "perk up" than the other girls. Right from the start she had a problem with pasty butt. She is now a week old and I'm still having to clean her...
My little babies are 1 week old!
I'd like to start giving them some treats other than egg yolk, what else can they have that doesn't also require adding grit to their diet? Or what kind of grit can I offer? I feel like the normal poultry grit I give the big girls would be too big for them? Is it?
Good Afternoon! Can you believe how warm it is out there!! It's 45* here!!
I have some baby chicks coming next week and it's been a while since I've had babies so I just want to make sure I have everything in order before they get here....can you let me know if I'm missing anything?

Is it normal/healthy for a hen to have diarrhea?
One of my hens had a large pass of completely watery, whitish diarrhea. Other than that she is acting completely fine. She is my broody hen that will lay on anything and is missing a patch of feathers on her belly from setting....
HI~
I have two chickens that I have a question about...this is my first season with the chicks so I'm not exactly sure what molting looks like....the first two photos are of one of my Rhode Island Reds. Is this what molting looks like?? She used to be a beautiful red color and now she has fuzzy...
HI~
I have new chicks coming the week of the 22nd! We are very excited for their arrival!
This will be the first time I have had them in the winter and I'm a little nervous about keeping them warm enough. The last time we had babies was in the middle of summer and we kept the box in our...
Good Morning!
I absolutely love my chicken coop (even better, it was free!!) however I hate the nesting box design and was hoping to revamp it this weekend.
Currently the nesting boxes are open on top, not giving any privacy. They also collect a ton of poop because they perch on the edge...
So what are your opinions on egg washing......
Do you wipe them down with a damp cloth?
Only the poopy ones?
All of them??
Warm or cold water??
Sanding paper for the poopy ones??
I am looking for a reputable hatchery with either a very low or no minimum. Does anyone know of any?
I'm looking to get a 3-4 chicks to eventually introduce to my group of girls. We have lost a few of our original flock so I don't have too much room to add to. I found...
Hi~
I live in Michigan so we do get pretty cold, bitter winters. I have a heat lamp in the coop that is temperature controlled to turn on when the temp in the coop drops below about 38-35*. Is that too warm for them or too cold for them? I read in the last issue of BYP that keeping it too warm...
HI Everyone
I've been peeking around for a few weeks and posted a few things and thought it was time to introduce myself! We got into chickens mainly because of my 5 year old daughter and have enjoyed (almost!!) every minute of it! We just lost our first to prolapse and it was heartbreaking...
HI Everyone~
This is my first time posting and I feel bad it's on the ER list but I do need some help/advice!
I had a hen pass away this morning from a prolapsed oviduct. This was the first time I had dealt with this and noticed it way too late and we lost her this morning. (RIP - Buttercup...
