Murray City, UT is considering allowing chickens!!!

I am so excited! There is an online survey you can take to give your opinion on allowing chickens in Murray! Currently Salt Lake County allows them, however Murray City has said no. They understand there is a rising interest in raising chickens, so they are asking the public for their opinions...

    Winter lighting

Ok, we woke up to snow this morning, and it got me thinking about the lighting and egg production. Since I am new to this I have done alot of research, and am trying to figure out which route to take. Do I turn the lights on a few hours only in the morning? Or do I do it both in the morning and...

    Is she molting?

I have an 8 month old Golden Laced Wyandotte... I noticed all her bigger tail feathers fell out a week or so ago, and then this morning when I went out to let them into the outdoor run, I noticed a bunch of her neck feathers missing. At a closer look, the quills are there, and it seems new...

They both died in less than a minute. Both were getting their waddles in, so not sure that it could...

My Sexlink is the first to lay, today was day 4. She has been laying between 8 and 10 in the morning, but this morning I let them out into their run at 6:30 am, and there was an egg in the box. As of 3:30 she was back in the nesting box laying another egg! Is it possible for her to lay two eggs...

Building a run, do I need extra fencing?

We are building a run, and plan on using welded wire (2" x 4") for the fencing. We do plan on burying it to keep out dogs and other larger predators. We live in the city (although you wouldn't know it, as we are on about an acre of land) so there aren't any many predators to worry about, at...
