I had 14 eggs set to hatch on Monday the 22nd. Well, the hatch isnt going as I had hoped. One chick has completely hatched and is running around in the incubator. 3 more are trying to break free, and theres no signs of anything from the rest. The first chick to pip through died in his...
Super excited! I've got 14 eggs that should hatch Sunday or Monday. I've got my syrofoam incy running at around 72% humidity. Hopefully all goes well. I can't wait, and neither can my daughters.
Pictures to come.
One of my Buckeye hens is acting extrememly lethargic. I'm not sure what's wrong, but she barely moves about the coop and doesn't have interest in going outside. When we were away for a couple of days over the weekend, my friend who was watching them didn't water them. darn friend! So they...
OK, all the info I've read says to candle the eggs after 7 days to see which ones are growing. I've never done this before, so I have no idea what to look for! Any help in explaining what a fertilized, growing embryo looks like (or what I should look for) after 7 days in the incubator would be...
Well, after some persuasion, the chickens made it out of the coop for about a 1/2 hour last evening. We put the rooster outside the coop 1st because he is less flighty. The hens were pretty cautious, but eventually all of them made it out. Oh, btw, I've got a small flock of Buckeyes; 4 hens...
How do I do this? I've tried setting them on the roost, and they won't take to it. So every day I have to clean out the nesting boxes and hope they figure it out. Anyone have any luck in fixing this? If so, what did you do? Thanks.
I bought 4 hens and a Roster this past Sat. So far they've given me 6 eggs. Very happy with them. I'm also attempting to hatch 14 eggs. We'll see how it goes, I'll post pictures of them.
I bought a starter flock which consists of 4 hens and a roster. These are beautiful Buckeyes! I've had them in their coop since Sunday and am wondering when I should let them out to free range. The lady I bought them from said they need to learn where to sleep, so I'm thinking a week should...
I hope everyting is ok in my incubator. The thermometer slid off the eggs and now reads at 96-97 degrees. Previously, it had been stabilized at 99.5-100. Im guessing no, but should I open the incubator to set the thermometer back on the eggs? Or just wait till day 7 when I candle them...
