I have recently decided to get out of the "Chicken Business" due to my upcoming second child. I purchased this Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance in July of this year and have since decided to sell it. It has only been used twice, and preformed like a dream each time. It comes complete with auto turning...
I bought this beautiful young Cochin hen (approx. 1 year old) as a "blue possibly lavender". Compared to my Blue Cochins, she looks almost light grey. But her head is kind of yellowish dark. So could she be a Lemon Blue? I was hoping for a Lavender, but if she's just a light blue I'm still...
Out of 8 that made it to lock down, 4 chicks are out and doing fine (and are very cute!), the other 4, when I opened their shells after I gave up, were fully formed, but dead. Based on this, was my humidity too high or too low. Thanks in advance for any help.
I will be putting about 30 eggs in lock down tonight (Cochins and Frizzle Mixes), and I want to try using egg cartons for the first time. I have the cartons cut down and ready, but I'm wondering, do I keep the eggs pointy side down, or turn them on their sides? Any advice would be so greatly...
i would really like to see some splashes, any breed... I'm trying to get a good idea of how they look in "real life". Waiting to see if I won some splash cochin eggs on ebay today. I'm sure if your like me you're happy to show them off!
This is my 3 year old Buff Orp, "Buffy". I have been wishing, praying, and hoping for a hen to go broody for years! She's only on her second day. She has 6 Frizzle crosses under(her own, americuana, and black cochin). I'm so excited, I had to share this great news with my BYC friends!
I'm on Day 15 of my 3rd hatch in less then 3 months and I'm already planning my next 2!! Hatching eggs is so very addictive! If I were a hen I would be so broody!!!
My turner hold 42 eggs, but I've been thinking about putting in eggs every other spot and only loading 21. Would this help my hatch rate, or am I just wasting valuable room? Its a HovaBator Genesis, forced air.
These 3 girls all hatched on 5-16-11. The Black Astralorp is so tiny in compared to the WPR and the BPR. Is this a "breed thing: or is she just simply tiny?
Sometimes I feel like I candle my eggs too often during the first 18 days. I only let myself candle 3 times this clutch (on day 13) and its killing me! I would look at them every night if I could. Do you guys think candling could hurt an egg, other then the obvious letting out heat and humidity?
Thanks to my sweet husband, my brooder is cut down, nesting boxes are made, and we are ready to breed some Frizzle Crosses! I have my two Frizzles crossing over 10 different breeds! The chicks are adorable with their big curled out feathers! Now if I could give my incubator a rest and have a hen...
I was wondering, does anyone cover their incubators with a blanket. I just covered my HovaBator 1588 Genesis with a light baby blanket, and it seems to be holding humidity and temps better. Is this safe? Any advice would help, getting ready to incubate some Lavender Orpingtons that just came in...
Tomorrow I'll be receiving eggs from 3 different farms from all over this great country. What should I do with them when they get here? Do I let them sit out, rotate, or just put them in my incubator? Would love any advice, this is my first time with shipped in fertilized eggs. Thanks!
