How high would a fence need to be to prevent chickens from jumping over? We had to get rid of our chickens this year (just before they started laying) b/c the neighbor complained, now they are changing the zoning so I am getting ready to get chickens again in the spring. I liked having them...
My neighbor complained about my chickens. Now I have none I was under the impression (b/c EVERYONE has them, and b/c I live in an AGRICULTURAL TOWN, with an AGRICULTURAL high school) that as long as I don't have a rooster I can have chickens. NOPE! I live on a full acre, apparently chickens...
My babies are 4 weeks old and now outside, I need to start giving them grit, can I just spread it on the ground or does it need to be in a container of some sort?
One of our leghorns, that are 10 days old and fine up to this point, is acting like it can't stand up. When I open the brooder, it jumps up and moves around but when it lays done it falls to it's side and can't lay down upright, any ideas???
We have 6 Cornish Rocks, 3 Leghorns, 3 Australorps, and 3 Golden Comets. All were Straight Run except the Golden Comets.
3 cornish & 3 leghorns we have had for 11 days
3 cornish & 3 Australorps we have had for 6 days
and the 3 comets we have had for 3 days.
How do you teach a chicken not to run away, or run into the street? We live out in no mans land, but we still live close to the road, and cars go by very fast (even though the speed limit is 25mph)
I brought home some new birdies tonight, and now my peaceful birdies that we have had for 5 days are now flying up on top of the cardboard around the kennel and trying to go through the bars. I am afraid to go to bed tonight b/c I don't want to find one stuck, or walking around in my living...
Went to TSC and got some more chickies, we got astraloups (sp?) this time, oh how cute they are! Little black furballs. However they are pecking the eyes of the other birds???????
What is the best way to clean their feet? Mine seem to look for the poop to step in it, unless of course I change the bedding everyday twice a day (I don't have to do it that often right?) but I want to clean off their feet.
We currently have 6 chicks, 3 are considerably larger so we are guessing those are the meat birds. The girls want to name the other three (which are the leg horns) but we are looking for a way to tell them apart. They are all yellow and look the same, can we tie a little piece of yarn around...
We got our chickens today. We got 6 chicks from TSC, 6 Cornish Rock (which I did not realize were meat birds) and 3 leghorns. The girl offered to put them in separate boxes, but I knew I was putting them in the brooder together, now that I know that 3 are meat birds I wish I could tell them...
