I'm planning to raise some meat birds this year and was wondering when the usual time is to order them? I'm in Ohio. I know they are at feed stores sometime in the spring but I cant recall when that is.
I have two lavender guineas, I think both male. I'm moving to an area they won't be able to free range and I just dont see the point of having them cooped. I am looking for someone who can let them free range and who will appreciate them for the funny birds they are. I really adore these guys...
I am considering getting a few (6-10) turkeys to raise for dinner. I was wondering, could I use electric poultry netting? How high do I need (either electric or if that won't work, what does?) I would rather not build a permanent structure, but was planning to more a pen around, sort of tractor...
I have noticed that at around 7pm, the guineas start shrieking and the chickens go to the barn for the night. The guineas stay out, but they scream till the chickens go to bed. Any other time of day, the chickens ignore the guinea screams. Does anyone else see this?
I ws getting about a dozen a day, and suddenly I am lucky to get one a day. This has been going on for about ten days now. I have seen several others posting similar problems, so maybe they have stopped laying, and not hiding like I thought? How can I tell if they are hiding? They are totally...
I was on here last year, and planned to get a few sheep. That didn't materialize, but I got a call from the livestock auction that they had a lamb they couldnt sell, so could I come get it? (they have my info to come get downed animals for my dogs) I knew when I saw him he was not bound to be...
I have two hens being broody. One is trying her darndest to hatch a lightbulb she found in the barn. Oh well, I steal her real eggs, and she's happy with her 60 watt.
The other one is setting on NOTHING. She was laying, and I'd take her eggs and leave her easter eggs. Now I took her eggs since...
Well, some are. Starting with the time change, I have been getting 2-5 eggs a day (from a lot more hens than that, but..)They protested all winter, so i am happy.
When should I expect them all (or most) to start laying? They are all old enough
How long can I leave eggs set on the counter? They...
I am working at a friends grooming shop, and people dump dogs on her all the time. She has lived here all her life so people know she's a sucker, LOL. There are several mini-mills here in town that have 10-20 dogs they breed and sell on CL. They bring her the rejects, and the dogs they are done...
Turk and I are back from the Westminster Kennel Club show. We didn't win anything, but we had a good time. It was the first time there for both of us, and it is CRAZY!
I didn't present him as well as I wanted to, I must admit. The floor is these weird astroturf tiles that clack and move a bit...
I'm looking into a service called Line2 for my biz phone. It's a number that gets forwarded to your cell. Has anyone else used this and if so, any feedback?
I did read the predator ID article and didnt quite find a match. In the last week or so, I have lost a duck, a rooster and at least one hen to something. All I found are feathers, and they are in a circle, or a ring to be exact. Mostly small feathers, not big wing feathers. Out in the open...
I am opening a training school, and while I am not generally in favor of leaving dogs to be trained, there IS a need for the service. So, I am researching it, and was wondering if any of you knew how much a program like that might be and how long or what was included. Of course, region will...
I've always worked in animals, usually dogs. I've been a trainer before but got burned out on the general public, so went other ways for a while. I owned a very successful pet sitting biz for ten years. Then my mom died, my marriage was a wreck and some various other bad stuff. We moved into my...
I will be making a few trips in the near future and can tote animals with me. I can take take smaller ( as in, smaller than a st bernard) animals, of any type. No large animals, as I do not have a trailer. The trip dates are not set in stone, but the following is my tenative schedule. Cost will...
We moved into this house this summer. Its an old farmhouse. For the last couple weeks, we have had frequent headaches and tiredness. We got a carbon monoxide detector and it isn't going off. The heat is fule oil and it seems to smell strnger than we think it should but we have never had it. The...
Thee and a half month old duck, sitting still and raspy breathing. Obviously a respiratory infection. Its cold and rainy here, so I need to bring him in. I can put him in a dog carrier, what do I need to do for him? He's also coated in mud, can I give him a warm bath?
We got four runner/muscovy cross ducks and we aren't really enjoying them. They aren't friendly, and very messy. We are considering sending them to freezer camp. What age do you usually kill ducks? They are gping on 4 mos. I have no idea what sexes, if that matters.
