Duck question. I culled a peking last month because he quit walking. I thought maybe he had frostbitten his feet, but it went into a respiratory thing. It IS very cold here, but the ducks share the coop/barn with the chickens and it has 3 heat lamps, deep litter/bedding, and I close the door...
I have a silkie rooster that I found in the rain. He was standing up soaking wet and as I watched the ducks ran him over. He fell over and just stayed there. I thought he might be cold and/or dehydrated so I brought him in, gave him a warm bath to get the duck slime off him ;0) dried him...
This is my poor bantum roo that I thought had frost bite.... It has been a week since that post.
I found him as a bloody mess and tried to clean him up, he had def. been pecked at. Now he hides under our broody
hen and won't come out. I have decided he is scared of the silkie roo and that is...
Goodmorning! We have our very first ever hatch day on Christmas Eve (hopefully)...
And I have NO idea what I am doing. We have always done 2 day old chicks so this is all new!
My black and white camping hen (who I was absolutely sure was a roo - even crowed) has been
broody for 11 days now...
I read the rules and couldn't find a place to 'agree'. How do I post that? Also, what if I have a chicken I would just like to find a good home, no money exchanged... Is there a better place to post that? I thought maybe a local thread... I don't want to ship it, just drop it off if someone...
Good Morning! I can only find a handful of Wy posts and no Wy thread - so I thought I'd add one and then broaden my horizons!!!
So who has chickens on this windy cold prairie??? I need some LOCAL chicken friends to bounce my questions off....
I love Wyoming! Rope the wind...
Good afternoon -
Been on here for 3 days with injured birds so I figured I'd ask my breed and gender questions too!
This is Juliet - She is definetly a bantum hen, I bought her as a camping, which she def. is not.
The closest I have seen on line is a bantum english game hen. What ever she is...
I feel like I am running a chicken infirmary here... I already have one hen inside because she broke of the entire of her upper beak, and I took her out to 'visit' with her friends and saw my poor bantum rooster completely bloody all over his entire comb, chunks, and blood dripping down his...
I finally have my first broody hen - YAY!!!! I am so excited!!! Here's the thing - I have no idea what I'm doing.
she's has sat on them for two days now without moving off them at all so I am confident that she will do this.
It's been cold and no one wants to go outside anyway... We however...
Poor Arucana broke her beak somehow this morning. I am not sure how she did it. The is no more bleeding, it clotted on its own. I have washed it gently but not treated it yet with anything for fear of ingestion. I brought her inside and fed her some grits (very watery) and scrambled eggs...
Pretty sure my silkie is going to be a hen but he/she acts like a rooster - chest bumping etc...
And not sure about the breed of these two hens: The first one is med sized and black and white - acts like a road runner:
And the next two photo's are of our teensy tiny bantam hen. One of...
Hi!!! I am Blue's mother 'hen' and a month ago he was attacked by the fox and had a huge chunk of skin bitten off. You all gave us WONDERFUL advice and Blue is 100% better and has a cool scar to show for it. I just wanted to update you all and thank you and what a blessing this forum was for...
They are persistent, I will give them that!!!! Got ahold of my frizzle roo this morning and hurt him pretty good... jerks. Last year the sturdy coop and yards kept them out, this year not so much.... Not only that but my too young cockerels (hardly even crowing) got OUT and chased the fox...
I am posting this again really hoping for even more feedback (I greatly appreciate those that have already responded!) and hoping to hear about other chickens that have had this type of injury and survived...
We have a young Cockerl/Rooster. He is a frizzle so is pretty scraggly looking...
We have a young Cockerl/Rooster. he is a frizzle so is pretty scraggly looking anyway. This morning I found him and our other bantam Rooster OUTSIDE of their coop yard, Chasing the fox out of our yard! I have no idea how they got out, we have had chickens in this yard for two years now and...
