    Pygmy Goats & Chickens!

Hi guys! Got a couple questions! 1) Does anyone have the curious combination of pygmy goats (or any dairy goats) and chickens? Any issues? We're thinking of selling our old chicken coop that we fixed up and buying a chicken coop/goat house like this: (hopefully for cheaper, they want $3,200...

Dead Hen - Puddle of Fluids From Beak?

When I found our second hen dead today, there was a large pool of fluids that came from her beak - do all respiratory infections/diseases cause this build-up or would this be iconic for pneumonia? I started an earlier post about which virus/disease this could be and all the conditions, symptoms...

Oh Lordy No!!! Our flock is sick - with WHAT?!?

Thank you Tracy and Fife! Sounds like they have the same symptoms! I have them on penicillin but perhaps I can get them on denegard. Do I have to have a vet visit to get that or does Tractor Supply carry it? I also heard Tylan was helpful! Thank you guys so much! I'm hoping they will hang tough...

Oh Lordy No!!! Our flock is sick - with WHAT?!?

Thank you Poonam! I'm hoping it isn't a virus!!! I was hoping it was just a respiratory infection or something more bacterial If the penicillin doesn't bring any improvement, I might just take a bird to the vet to see exactly what we are dealing with! I wish all these respiratory illnesses...

Hens are pecking Rooster~ bleeding~ HELP

Awww poor guy! I would remove him and keep him in your garage or a safe place until it heals. Chickens love pecking sores and injuries on other birds and can cause infections, etc. Then you can reintroduce him at night when they are all roosting!

Oh Lordy No!!! Our flock is sick - with WHAT?!?

Hello chicken oracle that I so greatly depend on... We lost one of our hens in a matter of 1-2 days (started with a cough, got lethargic, then found her dead on day 2-3). Now all our other hens are coughing/sneezing with a high pitch screech! Even our rooster, Rufio, is gasping for air. The...

Sick Screeching Rooster - What illness??

Hi everyone! We just lost one of our hens the other day (she got really lethargic, had a cough/screech sound, and within two days she passed away). Now, our rooster Rufio has a similar siren/screech sound or cough, and we're trying to figure out if its a virus or a respiratory infection...

Hen Suddenly Died! - Why??? :(

She was about 8-9 months old when we got her, so almost year old now? She did seem really tired the other day and I think I heard her cough but she was not a fan of having to get up and move around. I'm wondering if I should send her in for a necropsy like you said, do you know how much they...

Hen Suddenly Died! - Why??? :(

Hey everyone! Our Australorp, Bella, got a slight cough about a day or two ago and I was completely shocked to find her dead in the coop this morning! All of our birds are pretty healthy and happy, aside from the dusting we had to give them earlier last month due to some bird lice. Is there a...

    Best Rooster Names?

Hi everyone! Share your rooster's names and pictures if you like! I enjoy hearing the humorous names people honor their roosters with! Our little Holland/Barred Rock rooster is Roofio (from the movie Hook) or Rufio if we want to spell it correctly

    Poor Roofio the Rooster!

Hello Chicken Oracle! What is a good rule of thumb for the proper rooster age for introduction? We purchased some hens and two chicks around August 5th this summer. At that time our rooster chick was already 1 month old. He's already past the 3 month marker and is still smaller than our hens...

Golden Hen - Similar to Welsummer??

Hi guys! We just purchased 5 more pullets and can't figure out what the 5th one is. We have an Australorp, Black Sex-link, Holland/Barred Rock, Orpingtons, Welsummers, Speckled Sussex and a mystery hen! She has a golden neck area and looks similar to a welsummer but is definitely not one...

    Major Mosquito Problem

Not sure if this is safe or effective for animals, but flies and mosquitoes HATE old school Listerine. You can spray it on yourself and around the area...mayyyybe on the birds. Other than that, probably a hefty bug zapper?

    What size coop and run?

We renovated an old coop and kept the original size layout, 8' long by 4' wide, 5' tall. We currently have 9 large hens (barred, orpington, welsummer, ameracauna, etc.) and they seem to be quite happy! It also came with 9 nesting boxes so the girls are all accommodated! The original owner said...
