broody hen sits on eggs for hours and the gets off?

Two of my broodies were pretty calm. I could pick them up, check the eggs, etc. My other one is fast as a viper when it comes to giving you a peck for getting too close. I guess some are just calmer than others. Good luck with your babies!!

broody hen sits on eggs for hours and the gets off?

Yes, they usually get off the eggs at least once a day for maybe 15 minutes or so to relieve themselves, dust bath, eat and drink. It's a good thing..you want to make sure they are doing that. They know how long it is ok to be off the egss so don't worry. You'll notice closer to the 21st day...

**Updated w/ Lots of New Pics** Can you identify these chicks?

Starting to believe they may actually be EE/Cochin crosses. I know she has lots of EE at her place...I bought one from her a couple yrs ago. Sure would be neat if that's what they are!

**Updated w/ Lots of New Pics** Can you identify these chicks?

Here are a bunch more shots at 6 days old...Hard to see but they are definitely feathering all the way down to the middle toe (four toes total). The eggs they came from were bigger than the bantam cochin eggs that hatched out. I wonder too if it is some bantam cochin crossed with something...

They could possibly be mixed. Lots of Cochin, Silkies, Faverolles, at the barn where I got the eggs.

What to do with two mama hens, one is a not so good mama

I originally tried housing the two mom together but that didn't work out. "Bad" mama started to attached the other's chicks. Now I have a space issue as well but I can try to figure that all out. Thanks!

What to do with two mama hens, one is a not so good mama

I have three actually but one is a pro and doing just fine. The other two are first time Mom's. One of them is kind of doing a bad job caring for them. She's stepping all over them (banty cochin babies) and burying their food and water in pine shavings. I also have space/separation issues...

**Updated w/ Lots of New Pics** Can you identify these chicks?

Hi there. These guys hatched out on Saturday. I know what the little white one is but I'm stumped on the two darker ones. Not sure you can see in the photo but they have feathered legs/feet and they are larger than the white cochin bantam.

Hi there - I had three chicks hatch on Thursday of this week. That same night a fourth chick had pipped a hole but hadn't zipped. It had finally hatched by early yesterday (Saturday) morning. I am concered about it because it's not keeping up with the three older chicks. He's not able to...

Identifying a day old - Could it be a white frizzle cochin?

I can upload a pic soon but does anyone have pictures of a day old white cochin or white frizzle cochin? The one I had hatch came from a brown egg. It's yellow with some blueish coloring on top. Has feathered feet and yellow skin. One of the eggs I was given was from a white frizzle but I...
