Another thing i have noticed is that the male and female (solitary pair) tend to sit with their 'bum's at angles to each other, so they form a kind of heart shape. Their bums are pressed together at angles, is it a comfort thing or are they just keeping cosy?

Well, i played it and my hen looked quite concerned! She could either be broody and making calls for her chicks, or if there is a male she is fond of, she may be trying to get his attention.

My very naive advice would be just to attend to it as if it were the runt of a litter. Make sure it has all it needs: Warmth, food, water, shelter, and somewhere nice to snuggle and nest. With your tender care she or he will be just fine

I really don't know what to say, if the breed is a button quail, i'd keep her indoors and maybe consider taking her to a vet to check her over.

Our little lady tends to make soft coos more or less all the time which we attribute to her generally chattering to her male, but i suppose some hens will be more quiet than others.
