Hen is breathing heavy & tail is pointed down.

I have a hen, (not 100%) sure of breed. She's a rescue bird. Everything about her is perfectly fine. She's NOT fluffed up, she's eating normally, no runny nose or eyes, her crop is soft, she has no injuries, & she's a healthy 8 pounds. Today she suddenly started breathing heavy & her tail...

    Fat hard crops

I got two 12 week old chickies with fat hard crops. They won't fly at all like they use to & feel skinny & light wieght, BUT they still run around a lot & are still energetic. They still poo, which looks normal, they still eat & drink water. It's just that their crops haven't srunk down like...

    Pics of my rescue chicks.

I rescued these 2 from the highway 6 weeks ago today. They were just tiny, yellow fuzz balls then. Using me as a perch. They 1st started doing this a week ago, when I brought them some food & couldn't wait for me to give it to them & flew into my arms like falcons. Look at those...

    Cocci

I want to start letting my chickens outside, but I read about Cocci in the soil could kill them if they don't build an immunity to it. I went to my local TSC to get some kind of preventative, but they didn't have anything. Just de-wormer. Any suggestions?

Just started building my coop today.

I got the 4 corner posts sunk & leveled, & the floor plan framed out. The rest should go up real fast now. When I'm done the coop will be 8x8x8 foot with 6 nesting boxes & a 12x20x11 foot run. What's the max # of chickies can this set up house?

    Ligustrum sinense (Chinese Privet)

Is anyone here familiar with Chinese Privet? It's a bushy tree that grows like a weed here in Texas & all throughout the southeastern US. I have these trees growing all over my property. They grow these little blue/black berries every year & all the migratory birds & song birds love them...

    My official hello :D

Hello everyone. I 1st posted in the "Raising Baby Chicks" forum when I rescued some yellow peeps I found on the road. 2 survived & are 4 weeks old now. I just spent $1,200 on materials to build their coop & run. They'll have an 8x8x8 foot coop with a hawk proof 12x20x10 foot run, when I'm...

Well here they are. If my I found my rescue chicks a day or 2 after hatching; they should be between 3 weeks & 2 days... or ...3 weeks & 3 days old now. In any case they have imprinted on me & follow me around when I let them out of their mini cooper like I'm momma hen. On the right is...

    Pics of my rescue chicks

Not the greatest quality. I tried to get close ups of the feathers, but it won't focus when very close so this is the best I could do. Cheap camera. They don't like being separated. They peep like crazy if I take 1 out of the room & leave the other behind. The big 1 I named Feathers...

Looks like my rescue chicks are...

2 weeks ago I discovered 4 newly hatched peeps on a road side. A member here, who replied to my 1st post, sugested that I may have meat birds, because they are growing so fast. The 2 survivors are the size of softballs now. They look like softballs too; all fat & round No plans on eating...

New to chick raising... more accurately drafted

Hi all. Discovered this website after googleing (chicken's life span), so I thought I'd join since I got drafted into raising chickens. It all started when I found 4 newly hatched peeps on the road back home after work; 4 yellow fuz balls scamping along the shoulder. I stopped to check it...
