He is really beautiful. You are so lucky he is settling in so fast. I have two ? hens probably, not pure greens. They never have warmed up to us and we tried so hard when they were chicks. I thought they would break their necks being so flighty, they must be mighty tough. When they decide...
I really envy you southern pea lovers. We enjoyed 2 beautiful days here, but next week we will be in the single digits and possibly some minus degrees. After seeing the beautiful tails that are coming in I will sure miss not being able to get back out there. Since I can't spend time outside...
Very beautiful set up MinxFox. It looks like a perfect beautiful habitat for them. I love how you captured the peacock in flight. I really need you to paint a good luck picture for me this spring.
Zaz didn't find this before I sent note. I had a bad feeling that this would be a hard operation for him. Sadly the love one I think hurts worse than the person going through it. Sending lots of prayers not only for him but you, too.
Yoda and Minxfox you are making me want winter over with. I don't get out much when it is real cold. Yesterday was unbelievably warm so I went pea visiting. I could not believe the tail feathers were so long. They are getting beautiful again, yes. All most lost 2 hens in the blizzard we had...
I am new so I can't answer your question but it isn't dumb cause I have one of my peacocks that retained tail feathers that look stripped and I have been wondering the same thing. The other 3 completely lost all their long train and a lot earlier. Hope to see an answer from the more...
I've been making a lot of pasta from extra eggs and a lot of my chickens that I saved for eggs for myself and my kid's families are going in the freezer, too. They say the crops weren't as bad as they thought they would be this year with the drought but yet they doubled the feed. I figure my...
Thank you both. I'm new to this and I guess out dated as a newbie. Will try and get some Baytril to have on hand. I'm very lucky to have a vet friend who isn't knowledgeable at all about peafowl and already has his hands full, but I know is there to help if needed. Thank goodness for this site.
AugeredIn I never see penicillin on the expert lists. Isn't penicillin used as an over-all antibiotic
especially when you are dealing with an unknown illness. Is it an antibiotic that doesn't work well on birds?
I have Ivermectin, Safegaurd, Vabazen, Batril, and Penicillin. I guess I best be doing some more studying as I have never heard of pox in peafowl. I guess I have never had it in my chickens either. Probably just been lucky.
MMMaddie that's where I got my first one. It's been a really good one. The one from Best Choice costs less and has free shipping in picture it looks the same.
AugeredIn if you order the one from Best Choice Products let me know what you think when you get it. I might hold off till I get...
I purchased our first net for aviary off e-bay from Pennsylvania, it has been great. I just went on e-bay to purchase another and there is one from Best Choice Products about 1/2 the price. In the picture it looks like what I bought the first time I e-mailed them and they say it is noted. Has...
Sometimes I'm disappointed that they don't dig right in, but usually I go back and most things are gone. Lettuce and apple peels aren't their favorites. I have had to rake it up and give to the chickens. Watermelon and tomatoes never last long. I have been mixing crack corn in their feed...
Well somehow the post before went on before I finished.
This is the second trailer where the Spaldings are. Tried them with smaller blues but they are mean. They also have the kitchen area where I am
standing.
This is my 4 breeding pens in front of old trailer we have almost completed for...
Still a long way to go, but getting a start. It's been beautiful here, think maybe record high today.
I used two of these Little Giant incubators set up similar to Yoda except I used sponges in mine. Didn't have as good as luck as Yoda.
This coming spring I will be experimenting with this...
My question is if we worm the peas 2x's a year with Ivermectin and Safegaurd, are they safe from blackhead or is this something that just comes along from a bad worm they get and is not preventable??? Then can't we worm pea chicks under a year old or do we have to wait till they are how many...
Some of mine came from where they weren't messed with a lot either. Probably being moved disturbs them also. I guess all the garden treats I took to them and I talk to them a lot also. They don't let me touch them like some people's do, but aren't flighty anymore unless I try and move them to...
