Oh, and BTW you can expect those silkies to start hatching before the Orps. That has always been my experience when I had the two breeds in the hatcher.
I sure hope they hatch. If you lived closer I would give you a few pullets. I am going to start hatching in Jan on Orps. My Mottled seemed a litttle under the weather today. I put him in a isolation pen and started him on Terramycin. I have such plans for him so I am praying he is better by morning.
I ususally always take my camera to the show but I had two grandchildren and a teenager to keep up with besides bird stuff. DH helped too. Just didn't get any pics at show. My DH was so excited so he wanted a pic of me with the rosettes. I think he has gotten hooked on these shows now that I he...
I get rave reveiws for my dumplins and i can make homemade but this way is so easy.
I bake a nice fat chicken and after it is nice and brown I pour up the broth in a dutch oven or larger size boiler. I add approximately a quart of water to broth. I buy a large pack of Flour tortillas from the...
My chickens did well to day at a local show at the National Peanut Festival Fair. Chicken Show sponsered by Auburn University. Here is a picture of the all the Rosettes I brought home. My black silkie pullet I bought from Bobbi Porto who has won in another show got Grand Champion of Show and my...
Thanks Luna, I want to take a puter course to help me learn a few more ways to do things easy. EGH who posts on this board occasionally is the one who gave me instructions on how to get a photobucket account and then walked me through posting my first pic on another board. That was about two...
I am so excited cause I have been using a puter passed down to the third person. I have had it 2 yrs. I don't know how to do much but I am learning. Well I just got a Dell Dimension Desktop with 19 inch LCD flat panel screen.. bought it tonite. It is still in the box of course till one of my...
was looking for some cages for my Standards to get used to being caged for show. Someone was selling two well built brooder cages and I bought one for 40 dollars. I thought it was a very good price as in one of the pics you can see one I bulit over a month ago and spent 40 dollars and used a...
I had a little splash silkie hatch all by itself and was very lonely for two days till another two hatched out of a different setting. Boy were we happy. It cryed and cryed but now bossing the other around. Acts like a Rooster.
TAZ part of what you are saying for me will be true As far as line breeding is concerned, but I have only kept a few pullets and one Roo from my original Sandhill flock. I will breed the pullets to a non related Roo. The ones I got from florida came out of different groups of breeding pens. I am...
AS far as my Orps go. I have 6 from Sandhill, Two blues from another source. Then my younger Black and one blue and Mottled are all from a breeder in Fl who got theirs from a man going out of buisness of exhibition Orps due to health. I will line breed some but will keep records. No siblings to...
I am waiting to hear. They can peep for the longest time before they make and entry. I have one lone egg out of some i was doing testing on. A silkie. It has been peeping and pipping since last nite. This is day 22. I am still waiting. I have a few more to in about three days so this may be a...
I don't have any but they are next on my wish list. I saw some I fell in love with at a bantam show a few weeks ago. I could have bought four hens and a Roo for 35 dollars but the owner was not there for me to ask questions. The Rooster looked like he had some age on him looking at his spurs...
I have all three colors and they have at one time or another been in mixed pens with each other and mine all get along. Color hasn't made a difference for me.
I have RIR's but it has been a long time since I owned a NHR. Both are good layers, it is just that I am partial to dark red mahogany color chickens. I like things really pretty and classy looking. Ha Ha
Judy, I bet the black ones are girls and the buff and multicolor are Boys. you sure can get some interesting looking chickens. That first one will be a conversation piece.
Well, I think he is great looking. Why don't we just swap eggs and that will give us both some new blood lines and I will be able to give you some from three different groups of Roos and hens. Julie
