Well you are very informative! Thank you! I've checked her for mites, nothing out of the ordinary. Felt her crop, nothing squishy, or really all that hard, but firm like my other hens. I think I'm gunna try worming her.. Doesn't vinegar in the water do the trick? I mean honestly she feels fine...
Alright so my right leghorn flopsy who I've had for about a year and a half has been acting strange.
She's all huntched up, laying down a lot, looking weak, and not laying any eggs!
I did everything I could to treat for egg binding in a hen, (bathe in warm water, massage, etc.) and I don't...
So as you can see In my other threads, i have had quite a difficult time with temperature spikes in my incubator, which made me believe that the 9 eggs I have in there would die! :(
BUT HOLY CRAP GUESS WHAT.
I decided 'hey why not check em' and I candled them at day 7 (today) and EVERY SINGLE...
Well thank you both for the info. and i have read success and horror stories with high temps. I really hope they turn out all good! I got 9 in there now! I'm going to candle them at day 7 and hope that most of them have made it!
My eggs are barred rock crossed with RIR, BR crossed White...
So I had a stable temp of 99 last night when I checked at 10 pm. But when I checked this morning, the water all evaporated and the temp was 108!!! Will this kill my eggs it's only their second day in the incubator. It was 108 I'm assuming for five hours, it's back to 99 now
I would honestly do everything AROUND the hen. I wouldn't want to disturb a broody hen!! They're very nasty sometimes. But maybe when she gets up to eat/drink/poop you could QUICKLY pick the eggs up, put them in a safe place nearby and do your thing with her part of the nesting box. Then out the...
Sorry I meant thermometer the whole time.. Idk why I've been saying thermostat!
But I finally got it under control, turns out my thermometer/hygrometer is 100% accurate with humidity but is off 2-3 degrees. So when it says 103 it's really 100 or 99!
Yeah tried that too... Also tried a 50w red light.. Nothing. But this morning I tried a 25w reptile light and it seems to be stabilized at about 99-100, every now and then it says 102 but I poked decent sized holes and now it's back!
Well it's just a digital thermostat that measure temp and humidity. I tried venting in many different fashions.. But nothing got it right.
And inside the incubator itself doesn't feel all that hot, especially not 109! Maybe it's just a faulty thermometer. I'm gonna try a red bulb and see if...
I used this: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/11/make-cookie-tin-waterer-heater-under-10.html?m=1 For my three waterers and it worked wonderfully, even with my 6 gallon waterer! Stayed liquid even at -8!
Hmmm... I put mine on some board about 3 inches high, and sort of made steps with smaller pieces. Worked like a charm for me!
Now wit my older chickens, I have poultry nipple waterers that are gravity fed. But they are 5 gallons! Try ordering some poultry nipples from amazon (really cheap, got...
Trust me, if there's one thing a chicken likes is a dark and cozy coop.
Maybe shut off the lights and just put the chickens on the roost, and hopefully they'll get the hint that they're supposed to be in there.
That's what I had to do with mine. Good luck!
So I've got the whole homemade styrofoam incubate set up and when I put the thermometer/hygrometer in and checked on it later, it said 109!
It's only a 40 watt white bulb and is on the other side of my incubator.
I've tried aiming the fan at the thermometer, poking good sized holes..
Any...
Well thank you for the thread!
But uhh it's been running for about an hour and I just went down to check the temp out of curiosity and it was 115• :o
So I took off the lid and everything hardly felt warm. It's only a 40 watt bulb, and the thermometer is where the eggs would be.. Any ideas? Is...
Okay so I got a new rooster after I discovered the other one I borrowed was six years old and no longer 'interested' and he is wonderful! Today I got 6/8 eggs that were fertile! Anticipating this, I made a styrofoam incubator, because I know for a fact none of my hens would sit.
It's got a 40...
So I put her in the crate with some food and water with electrolytes in it..
She's just kinda standing there... Looking into the distance, spacing out. Hopefully she'll get better, maybe she's just exhausted or something
