I lock all mine in at dusk and still usually go out around 9 - 10 pm and walk the pasture with a flashlight just to be sure. Its an OCD thing for me.

I use red tinted 250 watt heat lamps in brooders. Anchor it with a cord and you can alligator clip it to adjust the height to get the temp right.
