So my 2014 meat bird experiment started today. Last year it didn't go too bad. Tried fermented feed last year and the lil suckers refused to eat it. This year I am going with 22% starter. Any suggestions with how I should feed to maximize size in 8-10 weeks. Going to keep posting here to all who...
O.k. time for my update.....I set 24 on the 9th and 18 made it to lock down. Out of those I had three quitters. So right now I have all remaining eggs hatched. That gives me 15 chicky's. All done now and just waiting for them to dry off and move them to the broader.
Sweet!! Hopefully next saturday is nice, taking my son on his very first turkey hunt with a gun! I need the weather to cooperate so we can hear some gobblers. That ought to get him excited.
Yeah really, I thought it was only suppose to flurry this morning then taper off this afternoon? As I look out my window all I see is alooottt of snow falling from the sky!!!! About tired of this crap LOLOL
Catastrophe diverted... Placed my 7 week olds out in my breeder pen last night and right as the snow started to fall their lightbulb blew out. I had to take a drive to orshelns to get a few more brooder lamps to keep the poor little things warm until mother nature wants to start spring here.
Happy Saturday everyone!!!! I just moved my 7 week old chicks outside to make room for the hatch next weekend. Its a process..... move 7 week olds outside... move cx into bigger broader.... then clean indoor broader for new chicky's all set now. Have only 18 viable eggs for lock down.
For those of you keeping track......on 9 march I set 24 eggs. Candled on day 7 and removed 5 (4 clears and a quitter) tonight I candled again and got another blood ring, so I removed it also. So as of right now I have 18 healthy eggs left in the Bator and there is a lot of good movement going...
Guess I spoke too soon. Snowing hard here at the house. I am waiting to put some 7 week olds in the coop also. It is happening this weekend though. Whether they like it or not. LOL
Hey Eden!!!! I am right across post in Roby. I also hope this snow is the last of winter. BTW you mentioned turkeys. Do you sell the eggs? I was looking to tinker around trying to hatch a few for my kids.
Ok I candled again and removed 4 clears and a quitter. That leaves me 17 left for the Easter hatch. All the rest were in there dancing around :). Hope everyone else is doing great. Weather here gave me a scare earlier with thunderstorms rolling through, but it passed with no issues.
They will be fine. I put 4 hens in a small dog crate and moved them from fort hood to fort Leonard wood with no problems. They even got to ride in the cab of the truck with me. Loll. Wonder what the turnpike gate attendant thought when I paid him and there was clucking in the truck?
