    Hatch rate way down

For the first time in 3 years I have been having a crappy hatch rate. I am in East Texas and we had the worst summer in history here. Hot Dry and Windy. We had temps over 100' for 3 1/2 months. I suspect that this is the culprit and the hens and roo just haven't fully recovered. Any thoughts?

We just love to get that call from the post office! Tuesday morning 25 EE's and 10 Golden Laced Polish arrived. We so love having the babies. I am so impressed with how personable the Polish chicks are, they eat right out of my daughter's hand and are very curious.

    free ranging ducks

I had ducks for the first time this spring/summer. We had a real problem with predidation and lost all of them. Putting them up for the night was a challenge, they did not want to go in the duck pen. I wanted them in the garden and it is fenced in, but it did not go well. How do you duck...

Guess what I am getting for Christmas?

My wonderful- if not enabling- husband bought me a new Saanen. Her name is Pickles and we will pick her up after the first of January. I am so excited. She is registered and bred- confirmed by a blood test. I have one already- named Saphire- so these two will be my milk goat herd. Saphire...

Last week I went out to the coop to shut the door- and to my surprise there sat an oppossum! The first time in 10 years for me to see one on our property. But not the last, we relocated him only to find another one the next night. My husband was going to kill him. He instructed me to lay the...

    One happy birthday girl!

My daughter asked for goose eggs for her 14th birthday. The lady we got the eggs from gave us 4 just laid and 8 out of the brooder. We brought them home, right into the warm bator. Well, on her birthday, 4 days later, one pipped! The little gosling is the love of her life. She sleeps with...

    hatching goose eggs

Tomarrow we are picking up white chinese goose eggs for my daughter. For her birthday, she wanted goose eggs so she could hatch them out and they would think she was their mother. So, my question is... do you do the eggs the same way you do chicks and guineas? I have had good success with...

An egg from my farm pipping!

Just for grins and giggles I put an egg from our chickens in the bator with the guinea eggs I set. I did not know if our roosters were getting the job done, it just didn't seem to take enough time.... I guess they don't need much stimulation. Well, this little egg was then placed under a boody...

    EE's laying light brown eggs?

I have 4 EE's that could start laying at anytime. I only have 3 other mature hens laying and I know who lays which egg. Lately, we have been getting 2 more brown eggs on occasion that don't match the other eggs. I thought that EE's layed green or blue tinted eggs. Do I have brown laying EE's...
