Oh! So that’s why I gotta hatch ‘em all!
What a relief to finally have a diagnosis 😅
(I still play Pokémon occasionally )
My single egg hatched, but I haven’t taken any pictures. Too busy with sheep drama.
Here’s a lamb pic since I didn’t take a chick pic for you guys 🥰
Should be about done now. Total of 18/28 hatched, 4 with help and still a few pips, but my guess is they got shrink wrapped too. Humidity was where it was supposed to be, but still…not the best. Not the worst either for bought eggs, though, so I’m happy enough all-in-all.
1/4 Silkie and 17/24...
Hatching every Wednesday from here on, though next week is a little light with only 2 😆
First batch (24 Sebright 4 Silkie) is in lockdown. Due March 1. First time hatching bantams other than Silkies, so I’m extra excited lol
Can’t wait to see them all cute and fluffy! :jumpy
A single goose raised by your chickens would be best, if that’s what you want. She’ll bond to the chickens and work as a “guard” by honking a warning to any unusual activity when she matures. That’s pretty much the extent of the guarding, however.
If you have more than one goose, they will more...
Jumping on! Haven’t hatched in a few years, but I’ve dug the incubators out of the closet and started incubating again. I’ll be going until June or so probably (staggered hatches since I have 2 incubators), but might not have the time to keep posting after this hatch. We’ll see how it goes 😆...
You could go with hair sheep if you want the qualities of sheep without the shearing. There are at least three breeds that I know of that shed their wool. Dorper, Barbados Blackbelly, and Katahdin.
I have wool sheep and shear them myself. I’ve also been learning to process the wool into yarn...
You could have a few goats on an acre as long as you aren’t in an area where it’s against bylaw. I currently have 4 sheep and 9 chickens on about an acre (I have another acre, but I’m not really using it right now. Once my flock grows a bit more I’ll need it again). I had goats before, but...
Not all hens make good broodies. If she’s breaking them, it’s probably best to collect and incubate them yourself. I would even doubt she’s serious enough about brooding based on her behaviour and would be concerned about her getting into the habit of eating the eggs like chickens do. (I’ve...
Thanks @R2elk
All the littles had a black stripe at hatch, but only this one is super defined and has the extra spots in the down as well as feathering in so dark. The poult pics on Porter’s website has all the Sweetgrass poults as nearly completely white until 6 weeks - hence my confusion...
Hey, been awhile since I’ve been on here. Can y’all help me ID this poult, please? Dad is a pure Sweetgrass, and I’m thinking mom is my Golden Narragansett hen as the others should only produce Sweetgrass. GN’s genotype is bb1 Ccg n Rr. I’m thinking it’s a Cornish Palm or Fall Fire? I can’t find...
My beagle is terrified of all loud noises...even a strong wind will have him shivering, drooling, and desperately trying to hide behind me.
Poor little old man.
