Will a light Sussex go broody?

I have four hens, all hybrids. I have a speckeldy, a local hybrid call a marigold very similar to a ranger, a little ginger ranger and my top hen is a light Sussex. I would like to raise chicks at some point. I assume my light Sussex is the best option? Do they go broody? Any way to encourage...

    Glycerin.

I have heard from an old poultry keeper that a teaspoon of glycerin will stop the water freezing up during the winter. Apparently it never mixes with the water and simply floats on the top. Does anybody actually know if this works and could it harm my hens?

When will my new hens lay?

At the weekend I brought 3 new hens. A speckeldy, ginernut ranger and a new local hybrid called a marigold. They are very nearly 20weeks old. They've settled in with my light Sussex hens already and I have a happy coop. How long before I get good eggs from my newbies?

    Dead chicken!

Her feathers were always in good condition. I only handled her yesterday and I suppose she was thin, Didn't strike me as a problem though, certainly no lice or parasites etc. . I can say confidently she wasn't having problems accessing food as I have range of feeders and I scatter food. No...

    Dead chicken!

One of my 20 week old light sussex hens died today! I am new to rearing hens and feel awful, due to my lack of knowledge. I got her three weeks ago and she was always a little sheepish, timid and generally tired compared to the others. I would notice her constantly falling asleep on her feet...

    Egg eating?
