Where do you keep your chicks as they get bigger but are not ready for outdoors?

They are still under the heat lamp and have never been outside. It drops as low as single digits at night so I don't think I am ready to leave them outside in our small coop. It drops down to single digit temps sometimes. They are Rhode Island Reds.

Where do you keep your chicks as they get bigger but are not ready for outdoors?

We have three chicks that are 5 weeks tomorrow. All 7 eggs hatched (one died the day it was born) but we overheated and lost 3. We put them in our huge laundry sink for the first week. We then moved them into the shed with a rubbermaid tote. They are pretty big but still have enough room. At 10...

4 of 7 eggs hatched- now what

Well three have hatched since 5 pm today and I am not sure if I should leave them while the other four continue hatching and remove the hatched eggs or if I should put them in the brooder.

4 of 7 eggs hatched- now what

I should have clarified this in an incubator. It only holds 7 eggs so it seems kind of crowded.

4 of 7 eggs hatched- now what

The chicks are climbing over each other and the unhatched eggs. Should I take the egg shells out for more room? Edited to clarify this is an incubator that holds 7 eggs.

How early can chicks start laying

We cracked it. The shell was so thick and hard- never seen anything like it before. And it had no yolk. Weird. I have convinced my husband it is not one of the chicks!

How early can chicks start laying

Our chicks were born April 3-4. Today we got a very small egg- 1/2 the size we usually get from our two chickens. It is about the size of an avacado put. I say it s just a freaky small egg. He is convinced it s a 'beginner' egg. Is that even possible at 12 weeks?

    Rain water for chickens?

I have always given my chickens acv in their water. Do you add it to your rain water? Our barrels have fine mesh on top to keep out bugs etc. I want to add the dunks but my husband thinks we don't need them. Any thoughts?

    We built our coop!

We took an outbuilding made of 6 utility posts, tarp walls and a multi layered roof and converted half into a coop. "Hillbilly carpentry at its best" is what my husband calls it. We tried to use what we had and bought what we needed. Even the kids helped! Our chickens are free range so we do not...

    Rain water for chickens?

We are installing rain barrels this week. I am wondering if I can use the water for my chickens. If so can I still use the mosquito dunks?if not is there something safer to use that will prevent Mosquitos?
