post your chicken coop pictures here!

Here's our new coop! Should be ready to pick up on Sunday, not quite finished yet. We will be extending the run, so the girls have more room when they have to be locked in. So excited I can't stand it! Chicks should be hatched around the 20th. The chicken lady said she will keep them until late...

    Buff Orpingtons and Broodiness

Awww sorry about your girl :(. I don't want any chicks, so I would have to cage her I guess. I'll deal with it when the time comes. The girl I'm getting my girls from seems very helpful, I'm sure she will give me some good advice. As soon as they hatch we get to go see them! How cool is that!

    Buff Orpingtons and Broodiness

Thank you so much! I ordered 6 chicks yesterday from a local girl, she is going to keep them until they are ready to go in the coop for me. Now just have to decide where I will put the coop and run. I have a few choices, but only one area is shaded with a big oak tree, so I think that's where I...

    Buff Orpingtons and Broodiness

Hi all! We are getting chickens this spring, getting ready to order them (we will be picking up at the farm), and I have a couple of questions. The chickens I have chosen are the Buff Orpington, but I saw that they can be very broody which worries me some. What would I do about a broody hen? How...

    Dogs and Chicken Poo

The dogs are all small, between 8 and 20 lbs except for one. A 125 lb Akita. Husband agrees, a stationary coop, and let them free range in our garden area occasionally, but only while we are out with them (afraid of Hawks). I suppose it's too late in the season to get chickens, I imagine we...

    Dogs and Chicken Poo

Well, we have 9 dogs, so no way we could possibly train them to not eat the poo. :( They are pretty well behaved, so I don't worry about them barking at or bothering the chickens. I guess a stationary coop would be the best for us. I have a nice place under a big oak tree for shade, and we have...

    Dogs and Chicken Poo

We are in the process of building our coop, but unsure what to do about a run. We really want a chicken tractor, but we have lots of dogs (we used to be rescue fosters and kept a bunch :) ). I'm worried that when we move the tractor, the dogs will be eating and rolling in the chicken poo. How...

    Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex?

Thanks Bullitt. We actually are the last house on a dead end road, woods on three sides. We own an acre and a half, and only have two neighbors anywhere near. I already spoke with them, they are fine with the chickens as long as no rooster, and they get eggs, of course!!

    Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex?

I was the first kid in our family to be born in the U.S. My parents came to America in 1962, and we lived on Soundview Ave. in Milford!! I think around 1970 we moved to Monroe, then my dad lost his job and we moved to upstate NY. I was 9. Small world.

    Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex?

I'm in CT right now. We bought 5 acres in Stockbridge, NY, just outside of Oneida and plan to build a new house in a couple years. I grew up in that area, can't wait to go back. I grew up on a farm, my mom had a ton of chickens, all different kinds, and it was my job to feed and water them and...

    Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex?

We are moving in a couple years. Where we live now, we have an acre and a half, last house on a dead end street, with woods on three sides. My only two neighbors are friendly, aware that we are getting chickens and said they would love some eggs. Really not too worried. If there is any problems...
