    i would have built it with the people door outside the enclosed run. i'm very happy i went with the outside nest boxes. i would have liked to cover the entire run with hardware cloth but could not justify the cost. i used kennel panels because i had them but i think a stick built structure...

    it's tough to match transparent stains. try some semi transparent or solid stain. i try to go with stains over paint whenever i can.

    i know how you feel but it's their bird. you should have just told them all the birds were gone. tell them how to fix the coop and run the right way. i'll never understand why some people will use chain link for sides and then throw some lame plastic crap over the top expecting to use the run...

    can't go wrong with raised beds and they look awsome as well. total control over soil conditions and creeping weeds not to mention irrigation. i recomend soaker hoses.

    along with the compost you should add sand to the soil as well. clay has a drainage issue.

    you could try a multi event short cycle water timer. i have a couple that will turn on four times per day for as short as two minutes that i use for the dogs water and misting system for plant cuttings.
