Hi everyone!
A few of you may know me on here, but as of late one duck in particular has been bleeding from underneath her wing?
My assumption is that her feathers were pulled out? (They're about 8 weeks old at this point) Or this is some form of molting?
The bleeding is never too heavy...
I have all the pictures on my phone and I've been meaning to put them on my comp! I will soon!!
In an unrelated note, the open mouth breathing was like this: http://31.media.tumblr.com/cc68ce83b9bea9f55011487d59f5022f/tumblr_mr8b5jJ4841r3k73wo1_250.gif
Is that normal?
Hi everyone! Please do not think I forgot about all of you!
Since my last post she had been going on and off with the open mouth breathing (the others started doing so too). I have turned off the heat lamp entirely (as changing the bulb was not enough) and they seemed to have stopped. I now...
wow so many replies in such short time! I'll will adjust the temperature accordingly and let you all know the results!
Thanks a lot for all the advice, I really appreciate it :)
Last I checked she was not doing it, but I shall update!
Hi everyone!
Like 10 minutes after I had posted she stopped doing so (the other ones forced her to run around a little) but she has resumed doing it again.
Aside from this one mannerism I can't say she behaves odd in any other way? She eats fine and is of course pooing all the time haha The...
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping this really isn't a big deal, but one of my ducklings (only this one out of 4) seems to keep opening her mouth while she lays down? When she stands up she doesn't seem to do it, but the minute she sits down her body kind of shakes a little (I think because of the mouth...
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the advice!
I've looked into the rubbermaid and wire cloth but couldn't really find anything that seemed to fit
Today I've created a temporary solution that I'm hoping can last for some time, I've taken a shoe box, wrapped it in plastic and set the water bowl...
Hi everyone!
So I've finally got my ducklings in! It's been about 5 days now and they are SO BIG. It's ridiculous almost haha. I have 4 of them (will post pictures soon) and I'm finding the biggest problem, right now, the cleaning of the brooder
My current set up is doggy-pads as a...

^ That's the starter feed I purchased (18% Protein, non-medicated) that specifically mentioned Ducklings on the bag. Unfortunately, that's all there really was at my local CountryMax. I've heard of people using non-medicated chicken...
Thanks for the response!
I actually didn't know about the Sticky on top of the forum! But looking at it, it seems that I have read multiple articles in it just from searching these forums. Actually have read the one on duck raising haha
And I suppose a 40 W will be my best bet then, or...
Hi everyone,
I ordered 4 ducklings and they should be coming in next week! (Yes I know winter is coming) For the past 2 weeks I have been scouring BYC and Google for "raising duckling guides." I've read them all and for the most part am pretty confident that my ducks will live both happily and...
Admittedly, I probably should have thought the winter aspect a little more through, but I intended to keep them indoors until they were more older and more cold-hardy. Then, we have a nice pen outside (used for other animals) were they can remain. Ultimately the ducks are intended to be pets...
We have a garage but I'm more concerned that it's winter soon and as such will get really cold. I intended the indoor brooder to monitor them and watch their growth as I am actually really nervous (these will be my first ducklings ever)
Perhaps eventually I can move them outside, I heard pine...
Hmm never really thought of the ducks jumping but that's definitely possible! Geez haha here I thought I was really prepared, I'm looking to hang the heat lamp and that will probably keep it out of reach for the ducks
Do you think if the house (with like a thermostat) was pretty hot itself I...
Thanks for the advice!
I think I'm going to try nailing a hook into the wall and having the ability to hang the heat lamp from different heights as I need to change the temperatures. I'll look into getting a cover, I believe the container is too low to use a hardware cloth and put the lamp on...
Update: It seems that the bulb cannot fix the problem as the 60W had recorded over 100 as well. I think the height is the big factor here, so any advice on how to elevate the clamp?
Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and I was just looking for some helpful advice on my first brooder setup. Thankfully we still have another week or so before the ducklings I ordered arrive.
So far, I've purchased a 35~ in container (hopefully I'm looking at the right measurements) and I...
