Talk to me about these pinless peepers I just received!

So after a long agonizing post about my hens picking and feather eating, I made some changes to their diet and environment and ordered pinless peepers. I've got 7 standard size birds, and enough peepers for everyone, but I'm starting by putting them on my jerky birds. (Not everybody picks.)...

Egg collecting, what's your favorite collection container?

Wow, what pretty baskets! After one too many times forgetting an egg in my jacket pocket and finding it days or even weeks later, or putting them in a hoody pouch, only to bend over and drop one, I bought a cheap wire basket at dollar tree. So far, it's great! I also got one of those pretty...

    Are austrolorps freindly?

Mine are friendly, they were the most gregarious peeps, and continue to be curious and pushy. Mine are not not lap chickens, but they are nice. Edited to add: I have a mixed flock, so I don't know who lays what, but I got plenty of eggs all winter. Of 7 chickens, all in lay, 2 are BAs.

Yeah, I tossed Stoltz in there just in case since there wasn't a link to a picture earlier. Sorry Bettacreek, you're just going to have to go crazy!

what are the names of your chickens?

Mine got named in pairs except for the lone gold laced wyandotte. I've got: Buffy and Willow Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Dolly and Pearl and My Darlin' Clementine. We waited a while to name them. Buffy and Willow are all black and were the bravest of the bunch. Buffy is the meanest...

Anyone else drive a Ford truck & listen to classical music?

I have a 1994 Ford F150 FWD pickup and I have NPR programmed into the stereo. I've also got a Honda Civic for days when I want more than 10 MPG gas mileage. I listen to everything except R&B, but stick mainly to indie rock type stuff.

Please help w/pecking, plucking, feather eating. Lotsa info & pics!

Thanks for the additional tips, everyone. I'm going to just go for it and try the peepers. My new immediate plans: Cut out scratch and scraps, feed a higher protein feed, making sure they still get enough calcium, and give better treats, like sunflower seeds. Really pay attention to the...

Please help w/pecking, plucking, feather eating. Lotsa info & pics!

Thanks for the help so far. underground chickenman: Thanks! I hadn't thought about the scraps (mainly fruits and veggies) and scratch ruining my efforts at raising the protein. I was feeding the scratch and treats to try to occupy them. I had tried raising the protein by mixing their layer...

Please help w/pecking, plucking, feather eating. Lotsa info & pics!

Warning: A few picks below of ugly picking. I'm desperate for help with my chickens. They're pulling out each others feathers, pecking each other's tails and vents, and clipping off and eating feathers too. There are no feathers in the coop and run, they are eating them. I thought I was...

Why you shouldn't put your chickens near your face.

Ouch! We keep our chickens off our shoulders for just that reason. They started looking a bit too interested in my eyeballs as babies and so it's no higher than the lap for them. Maybe we should all wear chicken protective swim goggles. Because that wouldn't make things look even weirder out...

my birth mom is a nut!!

I'm adopted, and live in a state where it's nigh impossible to get your file opened, and there are no matches for me in any registries, so I haven't met my birth parents. When I got old enough to have kids myself, I realized what a kind and generous thing my birth mother did by giving me up...

Check out this interesting relative to the chicken!

Aw, that's adorable. Reminds me of my cat who's only ever been able to squeak. And that comb looks like a candle flame!

That's when I knew.... *NEW AUGUST PICS!*

This is far and away one of my favorite threads on the whole board! They're fat, fluffy, much more colorful, and have bright red combs instead of those sad bleached ones they had when they arrived! Those are some lucky gals.

What is the best way/product to get pet hair off your furniture?

Pledge Fabric Sweeper really works, did you try it? I bought one and use it on my microfiber couches and it makes cleanup a snap (compared to vacuuming forever or using up almost an entire sticky roller). Edited a bunch out because I only realized after posting that you'd considered it...

Couch to 5k - training for people new to running

I'm on a brief break due to surgery for about 2 weeks, but I'm still at it! I'm doing the five minute then three minute runs. I'm still slow, but I've really come to enjoy it and look forward to my runs.
