I have seven Ayam Cemani eggs in my Brinsea incubator and all of the eggs are developing and they look great!!! Chicks are due to hatch April 14. I’ve attached pictures of the “parents;” one of the hens and the roo. If there is any interest, please let me know!
I have read that a couple of people have made modifications to styrofoam incubators to make them taller to accommodate emu eggs. I saw some pics of one modified 'bator, but would love to hear form others who have hatched emu eggs successfully in a modified incubator and how the modifications...
Thanks for the replies!
She has raised these hens since they were day old chicks.
They eat an organic chicken feed and have since she bought them- always the same feed.
She lives in a wooded area, so predators are a possibility, but nothing has been seen.
They have been dusted with DE...
A friend of mine has 7 hens that are just two years old. For the last few months she has gotten *very* few eggs and the hens used to be great layers! Now, it's down to about one egg a week The hens are healthy, well cared for, and nothing is visibly wrong. They're not molting, are eating...
Yesterday afternoon around 2:30, I had the chicks outside in an exercise pen on the grass. I quickly drove to get my kids from the bus stop, came home and let the dogs out. When the dogs came out, they spooked the chicks, and three of them managed to squeeze through the openings of the ex. pen...
I have a layer of pine shavings in the Rubbermaid tub the chicks are in. I am *constantly* finding their waterer FULL of pine shavings and I'm not sure how to remedy this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!
Nothing is wrong that I can see. No pasty butt, no injuries, nothing. He is not slow growing either; he's one of the biggest chicks we have.
Maybe he's just a talker. I just took him away from the other chicks for a few minutes and he settled right down and only made soft little cheeping...
This morning, I jumped out of bed because one of the chicks was peeping so loud I thought for sure something was wrong. The same chick has been peeping very loudly the last few days but otherwise seems fine. It eats and drinks and runs around fine, but constantly peeps.... LOUD! Is it just...
Thanks for all the replies, everyone! It's getting warmer by the minute and there's only a very slight breeze, so it looks like I'll be taking them outside later this afternoon! Thanks again!
Some of my chicks are a week old today some will be a week old tomorrow. I have them inside in a brooder with a heat lamp and they're doing great!
It is supposed to get up to 83 degrees here today and I was thinking I might bring the chicks outside for the first time I know they're supposed...

That is such a great picture! My husband and I have been wondering how many nesting boxes to put in our coop... I'll have to show him this picture
Well, we set 14 eggs in the beginning. 3 weren't fertile, one had a blood ring, and one stopped developing about halfway through. So, we were left with 9 eggs and they all hatched!!!
Sadly, one chick who hatched on Thursday had a lot of "cord" (for lack of a better word, lol) still attached...
3 of the chicks hatched yesterday (Day 20), 5 have hatched today, and there is one egg left that has a pip and a bit of shell missing so I can see the white membrane underneath, but it isn't making any progress The chick is still alive; I can hear it peep faintly *very* occasionally. The egg...
I am a bit concerned about humidity; it was nice and steady at about 65-67% but has dropped now to about 62-63%. Hopefully a chick will hatch soon and that will help keep the humidity up. One of the eggs has made a lot of progress very quickly, so I'm crossing my fingers the chick makes it out...
Are you doing dry incubation? If not, your humidity level is quite low. It should be around 50% for days 1-18 and 65% or so after that. Your temp looks perfect.

LOL! I just thought the temp was supposed to be lower for the hatch. I know I had to lower it when I hatched duck eggs years ago. I'm going to wait on lockdown until later today anyway so I can make sure the humidity gets to where it needs to be so I have time to adjust temp, to, if I...
