Okay. I've got my own thinking on this. I think that changing feed all the time gives my meat birds (freedom rangers) diarrhea and is bad for them. I prefer to keep my birds on the same feed, dictated by age and outcome (egg vs. meat) and supplementing with scratch, cracked grain, table scraps...
Hey members,
I'm curious about when your hens lay during the day. My gals are getting close (becoming exceptionally noisy, "squatting" when I come near them, and rearranging the nesting boxes).
~Also~, do they lay better when nesting boxes are covered on top or open?

Will they get used to the new coup? (It's so big b/c I am counting on getting more than three chickens in the future!)They are...
I've got my three ladies already spending time outside during the day in their "interim coup" while I was finishing the big coop. Now it looks like it is mostly done, and I'm wondering when other people who live in Seattle (or anywhere else similar in temp/weather) are moving their chicks...
What should I put in my run/coop to keep my chickens mentally stimulated? I have a big run and a huge coop for just three hens ( i started small on numbers becuase they are my first - I want to see if I'm good at this, first!)
What have people found that is good to help keep chickens, uh, busy...?
I have seen people in my neighborhood who use a big iron bowl for a waterer...Can anyone enlighten me on pros and cons of big bowl vs. automatic waterer?
