    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

I currently have 6 guineas, had guineas for 2 years now, and the one thing I'd say about them is they act as a unit. They always hang out together while the chickens spread out throughout the property. But the guineas stick together in their little unit. So may I suggest getting at least 2, more...

How can I keep flies off of my chickens during the summer?

Course I wouldn't do it but . . . how funny would it be to see a flock with those air fresheners around their necks?! Cant believe that even crossed my mind but I feel your pain OP. I ♡ my chickens & guineas and HATE flies.

How can I keep flies off of my chickens during the summer?

I live in the Sierras in northern California and have flies bad this year too. Live rurally and a few neighbors have large livestock so lots of flies. I have the rubber interlocking mat flooring in my coop and scoop poop first thing EVERY morning with a huge metal dustpan and 6 inch putty knife...

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

Well maybe at least to 5 weeks then. If it stays above 60s they should be ok without, but she will help if it does drop at all. That and I do think it may help with flock integration later if you plan on letting all poultry intermingle. Can the others see the keets and hen? Keeping them where...

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

Good luck with your keets! If you can try to visit with them regularly so they grow up friendly and want to stay near home. Millet and black oil sunflower seeds help too :)

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

The keets should be feathered enough by 6 weeks old. Being spring, 6 weeks old should be good unless your weather is still really cold then, if it were me, I'd leave your hen with them another week. But 6 weeks should be plenty.

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

Wow, thats beautiful! Lucky guineas! So I'd have to think that as long as you have a female she should be laying by now. My guineas are more reliable layers than the chickens during their laying season. The trick is just finding where!

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

Well thats a great sign that you hopefully have a male and a female so try to keep an eye out where they tend to hang out or if theres an area they may go to that is sheltered to lay eggs. They are really good at getting into places we may not be able to retrieve the eggs! Egg hunt! And if you...

This is one of my males. See his large wattles and helmet. Compared to: One of my females with much smaller wattles and helmet.

    GUINEA FOWL THREAD

Well I guess it was lucky that my guinea hens started laying at about 4 months old, but they will lay anywhere and everywhere thats sheltered, so yours may be laying just not where you have found it yet! Just yesterday one of my girls layed right in the middle of a very big thorny blackberry...

Neighbor hates my chickens- will she do them harm?

Perhaps a story of Spock trying to make it home or trying to find/make a good home for himself and an angry evil witch obstructing him from doing so at every step and him overcoming each tribulation presented. Then at the end, just to make you feel better, he melts the witches evil icy heart and...

Neighbor hates my chickens- will she do them harm?

I think TheSitcomGirls should write a children's book about the triumphs of Spock the friendly rooster overcoming the trials of an angry evil witch! The OP has such great, creative and captivating writing skills, and writing a kids book would not only give you an outlet, as I'm sure this post...

Wanted to update, my chick is 100% better, Thank you Mrs.B so much for your help! That night around 9pm she finally started to eat the mashed boiled egg and slowly started opening that hurt eye little by little. And now you couldn't tell that anything was wrong, yay! I love this site and its...

Chick problem - started with an eye issue

Ok, very good to know, and thank you for your care and concern! I did boil and mash an egg but the chick just wants to sleep, wont yet eat or drink. I tried to get the chick to drink a little by dipping my finger in water mixed with the electrolytes and dripping it on her beak. Don't know how...

Chick problem - started with an eye issue

Thank you so much for your response Mrs. B. It was a loud single peep that had alerted me this morning. I do ALWAYS wash my hand before handling the new chicks, so much so that my hands have dry patches. And I have seen the chicks peck each other right in the eye, many times, silly little...

Need help, very worried about a new chick. Got 6 chicks almost 3 weeks ago and they've been in great shape, til this morning when I was alerted to something wrong by a loud peep. Checked in on the chicks and one of the Brown Leghorns had one eye shut. Separated it from the rest right away...

Here are my new babies! Picked them up at Poultry Palace yesterday. Got 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Danish Brown Leghorns, 1 Partridge Rock, and 1 Light Brahma. Jay was there and got lots of great info from him. They had a few other breeds including Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshires, Golden Spangled...
