Hello Everyone,
My name is Samantha and I am a SAHM to a beautiful 3 year old named Sophie and to a wonderful husband named Austin. Last year started on a long journey to obtain 6 hens in our city. My daughter decided she wanted to watch chicks hatch so we decided to give hatching a try...
We are planning on buying the property first and putting a house and small barn on it. Then expanding little by little. Currently we live in city and there are just to many restrictions, I'm waiting on a permit for six hens, and this weekend we are planning on tilling up the back yard in order...
Haven't narrowed down exactly what kind I want. Is general a category...lol. Just a small herd of cows, goats, sheep. A flock of turkeys and chickens maybe a few ducks thrown in the mix and some land to plant fresh produce, maybe perhaps some fruit bearing trees.
If we get big enough we'd like...
did you just jump in and start a farm or did you make a business plan and approach it from a business stand point?
DH and I have been talking about it for quite some time and are unsure if we should just buy the property and slowly work up to getting it to a full functioning farm or if we...
I was just trying to replicate the conditions a hen would.
So is the point of a shield over the bulb to diffuse the heat evenly?
Can I flip them to three different positions instead of two? This is my second try at this my first was awful and I'm just trying to get it right.
Can they lay on their side? Just lay straight down in the bator the whole time?

I was thinking of making a turner so I wouldn't have to open the bator. But if I lay them on their side I need some...
6 of the eggs came from a lady who had 1 roo for 50 hens. She said she didn't have a high fertility rate but they were free eggs. The other person I got them from had 2 roos for 10 hens. I'm not sure. I did have an outage about day 7. I'm looking at just buying a bator instead of my homemade...
that none of the eggs made it past the fourth or fifth day.
Guess I'm going to give it a go again. I waited till my DD went to school because I didn't want to open the eggs with a preschooler looking over my shoulder.
Thanks for everyone's help
So The eggs didn't feel lighter but to me a bit heavier. I found a way to candle them and they don't look good. The hatch date is the 25th but so far there is really isn't anything. Here is what some of the eggs looked like when I candled them. Am I wrong in thinking they're not viable? There...
We were looking at a small chicken farm in GA. But I learned today it was already in contract. So guess I'm back to square one. Thanks for the info everyone.
Is there a profit potential in small chicken farms, aside from just selling eggs?
Do chicks and do hatching eggs bring in good money?
Which make more money brown or white eggs?
What about exotic breeds do they make more money?
And award winning chickens, if your rooster has won many awards...
