    True Blue Whiting info please?

I ordered 4 and 2 died in transit. There were other breeds as well to keep them warm. Have you had success with them so far? I'm wondering if there is a weakness in the breed.

    Ameraucana Cross

I have brown red Ameraucana hens and recently purchased a Lavender roo. Will potential chicks be a mix of the 2 colors or will I have some lavender and some brown red? I don't know enough about their genetics to predict and haven't done this before. Anyone know?

    Beautiful silver roo?

Yes, these are all pictures of the same chicken. It runs out ahead of mom in the morning coming out of the coop and then likes to perch and watch everything. The others stick pretty close to mom, but not this one. It makes me wonder if it's just personality or if it's showing gender already.

    Beautiful silver roo?

Our hen went broody and adopted some eggs from someone in our community. They didn't know what their chickens were and they hatched silver. I've never had a chicken this color before. So beautiful, but what is it? The fluff was a snowy gray combo. As they have feathered out they are this...

    Broody Hen Thread!

Day 21 is TODAY! Happy Halloween! Our first borrowed egg hatched under our broody. A friend talked me into letting my broody just do her thing and give her some fertile eggs from her flock (I don't have a rooster). I have a happy hen, and so far ONE very cute baby. The kids want to call her...

    Heavily speckled/stippled chicken eggs

what breed is this from? A friend gave me some fertilized eggs to hatch and they look like this. So pretty!

    Broody Hen Thread!

Her nest opens into the general population in the coop. I'm worried about her hatching the chicks here for safety. The area we've used for chicks before has no access to the outside (we have a huge raccoon problem). So now I'm not sure if I should move mama into the old chick area where she...

    Broody Hen Thread!

do you just hold the candle behind the egg and look? Does it need to be pitch black in the room?

    Broody Hen Thread!

this is funny because we've been calling our girl "psycho chicken." I wore oven mitts to put her eggs under her. She's quite moody and protective.

    Broody Hen Thread!

Our golden wyandotte went broody. After looking up ways to "break" her of it,a friend convinced me to try and just go with it. Since we don't have a rooster we found someone who has fertilized eggs and made a trade. We put 11 fertilized eggs under her today and she seems like the happiest hen...

Is my pullet blind or developmentally delayed?

They seemed to get worse :( She started running into things, including the other hens. They'd get bent out of shape and lay into her. She'd wedge herself into the corner and try to block her head. My daughter wanted us to kill all the bullies, but I couldn't see wiping out the whole flock...

Is my pullet blind or developmentally delayed?

She ended up having to be made dinner :( The other hens started picking on her non-stop.

Crop, brooding, or nearing her end

I have a 8 month old Wyandotte that has an enlarged crop. It has gotten worse so we came to the internet for solutions. We tried withholding food and water as well as massaging the crop. She went into the nesting box and refused to come out. She hisses, pecks, and growls if we try to disturb...

Is my pullet blind or developmentally delayed?

She is completely blind out of the right eye but seems to see out of the left even though it is cloudy. Do they eventually go completely blind, or do they keep their partial vision? She eats and drinks okay, just misses out on the good treats I throw out for them. She likes to stay under...

Is my pullet blind or developmentally delayed?

Thank you. I caught her this morning and looked in her eyes. The pupils have bluish clouds in them. I've never had a blind chicken. I'm wondering if she'll be able to be a successful layer. She has laid a yolkless egg from her perch and a shell-less egg in the field. I have never seen her...

Is my pullet blind or developmentally delayed?

I have a 21 week old New Hampshire Red that isn't quite right. She pecks if the pullets/hens are pecking next to her but when she's on her own she can't seem to find food. If I throw something towards her she freaks out and flies away. When i open the coop in the morning the other ladies run...

Comment by 'troy007ramz' in article 'My coop: eggs and pancakes'

my chickens are afraid of our bunny. Every time I try to put them out together the hens make a big uproar and the bunny goes into hiding. How'd you get them to be friends?

    When will my pullets listen?

I have the stupidest pullets on the planet. When I call them to lock up in the coop they won't follow. They run away from me when I come from them and they try to hide in the bushes. My hens come running to me as soon as I call "chick chick chick!" I pet my hens and hold them. I've picked...

Golden laced Wyandotte Roo or pullet?

It's hard to get them to pose. But the one in the back has a bushier neck and shorter tail feathers. The one in the front is the one I posted pictures from earlier. Could one be a roo or are they just uniquely different?
