I use a Little Giant, 5 gallon, galvanized water fountain to water my chickens with. I've only had it about 4 or 5 months and it is already rusting. I've never had trouble with rust in anything that was galvanized. Do any of you have any idea on how I can stop the rusting?? Anything short of...

What's going on with my chickens?????

I have 13 Buff Orpington hens and 3 roosters. They are about 7 1/2 months old. Until shortly after the time when they started laying, they were a beautiful orange/gold. Now, they have developed very light colored spots on them. I'm sure the sun hasn't bleached their feathers out that way...

    Need help with recipe tree....

Hey all, The other day, my mother sent a thing called a "Recipe Tree" to my wife. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. You send 1 recipe to the person whose name and address appears on the back of the original letter. You then make 6 copies of the front of the original letter and...

    "Plucker" attachment for drill.....

I've been told that they make attachments that you can use on your drill to pluck the feathers from your chickens. Have any of you heard of these or know where I can find one?? No more birds than I will process in a year, I can't quite justify the cost of the typical plucker. I just thought...

For those who pay for processing....

I know that some of you pay someone else to process your birds. How are you charged..... by the bird, by the pound, or what?? How much does it cost to have your birds processed?? How do the processers package your birds?? I ask these questions because I just don't know how much longer I will...

    Dark Cornish Week 2 update......

Hey all, I'm sorry that this update is so late. It is so late due to some "technical difficulties" that were beyond my control. During the second week, the Dark Cornish did not increase their weight (percentage wise) near as much as they did the first week. But, I think that most of it is my...

Dark Cornish 1 week update with pics.....

For those who have expressed an interest in how they are developing, I thought I'd try to post a weekly update on my Dark Cornish. Yesterday, 10/19 marked my having them one week. When I first got them, I weighed each one of them. They averaged weighing 1.5 ounces. And, each chick was so...

    Any in West Tennessee??????

I live about 60 miles north of Jackson, TN and was wondering if any of you know of any shows that would be close to me. I'm sure that the possibilities of there being any "upcomming" shows are quite slim. But, if there are any annual shows that would be local to me I'd sure like to know where...

Question for greyfields or other Dark Cornish owners.....

Any other time, I'd have put this post in "Feeding Time." But, I've put it here because it is a meat breed that I am talking about. As most in this area know, I got my Dark Cornish chicks from Ideal hatchery yesterday. I am happy to report that all 26 are still doing great!! But, I have a...

Dry Incubation... my experience... Part Duex... With Pix!!

Let me start my apologizing for a mistake I made in my original "Dry Incubation... my experience..." post. So shoot me! I'm an old f@rt with bad eyes, only one functional brain cell (and it's usually on vacation), and sometimes I get in entirely too big of a hurry for my mental and physical...

    Dry Incubation... my experience...

I have two incubators; a Hovabator and a Little Giant. Both are still air, foam incubators. In the past, I have incubated eggs in them, followed the included instructions "to a T," yet had rather poor results. The best results that I have ever had was about 20% hatch from eggs that were 100%...

Dark Cornish comming... Have feed question...

I finally ordered 25 of the Dark Cornish cockerals this morning from Ideal Hatchery! I wanted them to cross with my own hens to come up with my own Cornish Cross. Since Ideal won't sell any more cockerals than the number of pullets they have sold, I have to wait for the Oct. 10 hatch. That's...
