I just hatched a couple with the same trait. The parents came from two reputable breeders so I'm very curious about this as well. Let me know if you find out!
I have a splash EE roo that has finally produced chicks! We put 3 eggs under a broody and all three hatched! Two are from other EEs but one is from my DBL(double blue laced) Barnevelder hen.
Has anyone crossed a DBL Barnevelder with an EE? Any idea what the chick will look like later on? Right...
I have a question about my red cochins actually. I have 6 total and THOUGHT I was keeping a breeding pair, but the one I thought was a pullet suddenly developed wattles at week 6. I'll see if I can get a photo, but can anyone tell my now if this means I actually have two roos?
Hens seem to have a very strong instinct for duds. She's probably cleaning up the dead eggs so she can focus on the ones that will actually make it. I have never had a hen kill a live egg, but every broody Ive ever set eggs with has eaten, booted out, or buried bad eggs.
With Easter Eggers it usually some pretty wild guesses, but heres my shot at it! The yellow peep will probaby end up white with some minor markings in the hackle (and saddle if its a roo). The two matching brown chipmunks are going to look partridge-ish but with a darker head and the blonge...
Here's a weird question. I hatched some BBS bantam Cochins and one of the splash chicks was looking distinctly frizzled for the first 5 weeks but suddenly in week 6 the feathers seem to have all smoothed. So, what is he? Is he just weird?
I'm so excited! I just started collecting eggs for my first hatch of EE/OE from my own flock! My EE roo has been VIGOROUSLY mounting the 4 ladies (2 EE, 1 Barnevelder, 1 RIR mix) and I'm just so excited to start the incubator. How long can I collect eggs before the earliest lose viability?
Hey y'all!
I have 4 red bantam cochins available that hatched Jan 4th and they need homes! They are 2 pullets and 2 cockerels, and I would rather not split them up, but would be willing to send them off in breeding pairs. They are friendly and fearless and excellent birds with show potential...

Hey! There were some lovely birds at the PPBA show last weekend, and in interested in getting some eggs for a friend's classroom hatch project. Specifically I'm interested in LF Cochins, Speckled Sussex, blr wyandottes and barnevelders.
I too am looking for feathers! I make feather headdresses (like the one below) and brooches made from Collected feathers. I can offer cuckoo Marans feathers for trade and I'm looking for people who have collections of feathers that they don't know what to do with.
Mail me your clean feathers...
