Cochin breeding, genetics, and showing

i think I need to get the birchen some more girls lol everything but his hen would cross better with the splash roo which is a slight shame since I think the birchen is a better shaped bird .. I do have them lemon blue hen to keep with him ..

I think I read somewhere that Columbians are used to get the birchen?

I will definitely try and find a nice partridge roo the partridges are my favorite variety

if I cross my partridge girls with a roo with better feathering on his feet should it make better the chicks have better foot feathers ?

The only thing I would breed your Birchen with would be a Black hen or of course another Birchen. I've seen a few nice Birchens from hatcheries (it's a crap shoot if you go to a hatchery) but it might be worth a try if you can't find them anyplace else. I've "heard" that Welp is not too bad. Birchen is my chosen variety and I really do think your male has some merit to him.You need Birchen females and a really nice Partridge male. Good luck
By the way, you're right about the Birchen having better type than the splash. I really don't care for him very much. I'd just let him free range and not breed. If you decide you would like to get the birds you really need, let me know and I'll be happy to help you out. Oh and by the way, I don't have any Birchens I'm letting go of right now, so I can't help you out that way. I just think I might be able to help you track down what you need.

I have a question about my red cochins actually. I have 6 total and THOUGHT I was keeping a breeding pair, but the one I thought was a pullet suddenly developed wattles at week 6. I'll see if I can get a photo, but can anyone tell my now if this means I actually have two roos?

And a correction! It's week 8, not 6!

Are these two babies gold laced and red ? Or maybe silver penciled and buff ? Hatchery stock and I don't know which of the 11 colors grandma ordered for me ... but she got 6 colors ... The ones I've figured out are partridge blue. Black and splash pretty sure the orangey chicks are reds or will be red when bigger ... but can't decided on this last one ... :-\

Looks like a Red and a (Partridge the pattern). No way is it Gold Laced.

They are ccompletely different colored than the partridge chicks the partridges are dark red colored ...
that's why I.was thinking maybe it's silver penciled?
Penciled is the same pattern as partridge...?
