    The Sizzle Thread!

The latest news on Smokey Joe was that he was settled with a Silkie breeder in Prunedale, CA who absolutely loves him. I guess there may be more news of him in the future.

    The Sizzle Thread!

The good news is that Smokey Joe will have a new home. I donated him to the Monterey County, CA 4H program. They were glad to accept him.

    The Sizzle Thread!

It looks like I am going to have to re-home my Sizzle rooster. It is just that he makes too much noise. He'll be free to anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is around 6 to 7 months old with the comb features of a Silkie (walnut comb, etc.). Great disposition, I'll pick him up and sit him on...

    The Sizzle Thread!

An update, our dark grey sizzle turns out to be a rooster!? That may explain the size difference. He is a good, docile bird, and I have placed a "no crow" collar on him. So far he isn't too loud or talkative, but time will tell.

    The Sizzle Thread!

From the few sizzles I have, I don't know if there is a standard size Sizzle. Our frizzled is larger, probably from the Cochin influence (hens to 8ibs.) while our smooth feathered is much smaller about the size of a Silkie (1 to 1.5 lbs.). Hopefully, the experienced breeders can add some...

    Cuckoo marans

This is Batou, prior to our having to harvest him. He was just too loud even trying a "No Crow" collar.I couldn't find anyone to re-home him after a month of trying and was receiving complaints. My 3 Marans hens are good producers of eggs so far. The three hens like to sit on the top of the...

    Cuckoo marans

Batou, our Cuckoo Marans rooster named for a character from the anime "Ghost in the Shell", is still young. Marans are friendly, but don't like to be handled. He'll still listen to our top hen, a Silkie. This morning our OEGB, Coco, took a peck at him and he just moved away. They are heavy...

    Cuckoo marans

At what age do the Marans start laying? Mine are at 4 months now, but I guess I need to wait for spring with them. I have read that salmonella is less of a problem with the Marans eggs as they have the smallest pore size in their eggs of all the breeds. The bacteria cannot make it through them...

A Question on this white bantam

Would it be possible that she is a Red Pyle or a mix of Red Pyle and Splash OEGB?

A Question on this white bantam

Maya is about 12 to 14 weeks old. She came from a Bantam Mix of day old chicks from Murray McMurray. One source suggest that she is a Bantam Americauna or Easter Egger. I kind of doubt it. Her body lines seems more like an OEGB as well as her attitude. Maya's color is basically white...

    Feeding Station

My coops are small and I wasn't satisfy with the smaller feeders. I went and bought a 30 lb feeder for my flock which seemed to fit my needs. But after the first couple of nights I saw that it was attracting mice and rats and would also have some problems with the rains later on and our mild...

    Cuckoo marans

I heard back from the breeder, and will receive a replacement pullet. I plan now to keep the rooster as he has shown to be a good bird. the neighborhood noise with car alarms going off, and dogs barking is probably louder than a single rooster.

    Cuckoo marans

Thanks for the confirmation. I believe the hen you are referring to is our "Coco" who is a Silver Duckwing Old English Game Bantam.
